Pi springs

  172 cup

Have recently fitted 35mm Pi springs on my 1.2 dynamique and have heard many bad things about them, they seem to handle better especially on smooth roads but on bumpy roads it feels skitish.

I have seen pictures of the rear springs on a photo on here where the spring is completley compressed without any weight in the car but on mine it is not compressed as much as his photo atall.

Whats everyones experiences with them???

hi, the pi items are ok, if a little hard. the pic you saw was of a massively lowered car. all but one of the coils on the rear sit compressed like this to acheive the required ride height (-70mm i beleive).

benji, ( p-i distributor, amongst other things)

that would be my car and they are 60mm.

they are crap end of story!! better springs out there for not much more money.

are your springs p-i? if so did you fit them with the white band in the correct position (rear), cos if yours are the ones i saw a pic of, they didnt seem quite right??

  Clio 1.6 16v 2003

been in every position mate, didnt fit them first time myself but have taken them out say 4 times now i think.

there wasnt a white band on them mate either

either way its a crap design. got the pic on uploader do u want me to post?

nah, yours wernt the ones i saw. it was a black 1.2. there should have been a white band around one of the coils, the springs should have been fitted with this band at the top and facing the rear of the car. cant really see from this pic, but they look ok. but i dont usually recomend the -60mm jobbies.

how much did you pay, if you dont mind me asking?

defo no white band on them mate 100% sure never was.

they were £58 new plus p&p, cheap and nasty!!

mine is black but 1.6.....

they should have had the white band, probably some unscrupulus trader (hopefully not me):p... didnt check em properly. the price you paid is for white box springs that should never be sold as p-i !!!! .

pm me if you interested in any solutions................ or buy yourself a nice set of coilovers:D

my -35mm pi springs were poop

sat exactly the same as mr sheeps springs, fitted various times, even once by a garage, the coils just compressed too much every time

Mine are the 35mm and look far less compressed than the photo above, im sticking with them because although hard seem to be ok.

solution almost complete, got a set of second had apex to see me through untill the car goes el standado and replaced by 182.

brought the springs from esp design online, came with all the correct box etc... so who knows

brayan your 35mm ones shouldnt have compressed like those mate!!

  Clio 1.6 16v 2003

go for it mate, if you want i can send the springs (rear ones only) back to look at.

they were only on the car for about 4 months before they start to make an horrendous noise with the paint striped off it was metal on metal.

email is mailto:ross.speakman@ntlworld.com">ross.speakman@ntlworld.com let me know what he says cheers.

hi, all. ive spoken to p-i. the upshot of wich is that the -60mm springs are probably not ideal (understatement). i never reccomend going this low with p-i anyway. they are good for -30, 35mm but any more than that you are looking for a more comprehensive kit ideally. from experience though i would say the 70-045 kit is ok (i have supplied and fitted 4 of these kits with no probs) which lower the phase 2 clio by -35mm on the front and -30mm rear.

sorry i cant be of more help!

i will add. i am currently using p-i on my 172 but ive only dropped the front by 15mm and the rear by 25mm. ive had no problems with them and handling/ride is basically unchanged (maybe the turn in is a little crisper). but i wouldnt go lower than that on the 172 with p-i

i had the 70-045 pis recently fitted nice thos i near noises in the rear wen i rag round roundabouts lik rear arch is rubbing, even tho i have 5mm spacers on back. plus the front rubs sometimes on full lock. tho i can take corners alot faster with confidence. note i recently fitted 172 mk2 16"s too.
