Pictures, date embedded?

As in on the internet can you get a date from a picture even if there isn't one shown? As in when it was created?

I think it can be found in the exif data, from what i remember.

I used the exif data in some software to lookup focal length when taking pictures.lol. boring.

But yeh, you can get the original date assuming the date was set correct the day it was taken.

All depends how the picture was saved, Photoshop save for web strips out all the EXIF data so the date you will get will be when the file was saved, not when the picture was taken in some case.

As said above it's all in the EXIF data and is sometimes stored but it's usually lost when the file is specifically compressed (as in the Photoshop like Rich says).

A good tool if you have Firefox is an add-on called Exif viewer.
