Pioneer's Direct Sub Drive...

Car  MK3 Sport Tourer TCE
A couple of the HU's I'm looking at getting have this Direct Sub Drive feature.

From Pioneer site:
"It enables you to amplify your front speakers by 2 x 50 W and add a 70 W amplified filtered subwoofer (in 2 Ohm mode) in the rear to enjoy outstanding full power bass without an extra amplifier."

So, what is an 'amplified filtered subwoofer'? :S

basicly means you use the two rear channels off the hu to drive a sub

but it goes through a lpf first.

yeah but tbh 70w is f**k all.

i wouldn't think of driving a sub with less than 150wRMS

I'm not after huge bass, hopefully 70W will be enough to hear my music properly at 70mph.

At the moment all the lower frequencies are lost at motorway speeds due to the little 1149cc engine screaming away at higher revs :o

Does anyone on here run a sub directly from the HU? Is it powerful enough for day-to-day use? Or is it rubbish? :S

Go on ebay and search for the ice clearout shop on there... .loads stuff cheap. Brought a 500 watt amp for like 50 quid with free wiring kit, honestly can't beat that!

Mate its not too bad if you have a JL W1 or similar as they dont require much power. I personally wouldnt go down that route, but if you are buying the stereo anyway you can hook a sub up to it until you have the wedge for a proper amp for the sub.
