pitted cams and worn cam cover

  Clio 172 sport
Stripped my 172 to reseal the rocker cover, fit a new cambelt kit, dephaser and aux kit.

On removing the cam cover it appears to be worn and the cams pitted......

Would it be still ok or should i replace the cover and both cams?

Car was running fine apart from a noisy dephaser pulley here are the pics

imo and im no expert but thats f**ked?

Cam covers are mated to each specific head
iirc so will be hard to do me think

It going back together for the time being, it was running fine apart from dephaser pulley noisy. It will get stripped back down when it fooks up

  Many.
Pretty much what I'd do if it was my own. Cams are already fucked, It'll just loose oil pressure and probably start knocking, then the oil light will come on lol.

Impressive anyway, how many miles has it done? Has it been sat for ages or something? Missed loads of oil changes?

So easy to change the head now that you are that far in. I would just buy a secondhand head in decent order.

Although might be worth popping the sump off and checking the ends and mains as they are likely to be shot too.

But then i am best to get it skimmed and pressure tested, new head gasket and once that done wont be long till the bottom end goes, been there done that, might as well throw it back together and run it, then buy a second hand low mileage engine and stick that in it when its blows.

Its got to go on, thats the only reason i am doing all of is is because the dephaser was noisy. Unless i find another cylinder head i have no choise but to rebuild it as it stands as i have to get the car running as i am moving house soon

Even though it may appear to be pitted the cams, it was running spot on apart from the dephaser. It going all back together and see how it goes, if it fooks up then i will just buy a new engine, it was a project car and cost me £200 for the car a week ago with 8 months mot on it

Ive been there before with another car, new head and then the bottom end went. It was running fine before so going to just stick it back together. putting a new head on might cause bigger problems. i might as well just but a second hand engine in

Seems daft spending hundreds of pounds on belts and dephasor etc to put together an engine that you know has that sort of damage on the head.

I'd just have a quick look at the bottom end bearings to decide if the problem is localised to the head, if it is then just fit a new head, if its bottom end damage too then fit a new engine.

I sure as hell wouldnt be wasting hundreds of pounds on new bits to use with that head.

I can reuse the new parts, cambelt kit ect. if it knocks it head off then yeah, i will get a new engine for it. but if it doesnt i will get as much use out of it as i can. it was a cheap car and not willing to spend £175 for a recon head as the bottom end with that miles will just go, pointless grinding down the crank and putting new shells in.

I am moving house next month (Double garage) so i will find a descent second hand engine and put new seals, put cambelt, dephaser pulley ect on it and then get it put in the car when i have the time

So you are going to waste a new dephasor on this engine then buy another one for the next engine?

Wish I had that sort of money to burn, lol.

Right, new update, fook it i am getting a new engine. This engine had been messed around with. Just took inlet off and the ports have been grinded out. Someone said that a 2.0 luguna engine is the same. Is this correct that the lump and head are the same as this one has only done 60k and £100
