Plastic gearstick surround HOT?

Since having 182 mani and sports cat fitted, the plastic surround of the gearstick has been getting very hot.

The gearstick has always had alot of movement and is a quickshift but it also now has up and down movement???

Any ideas?

I find the floor above the exhaust in my car gets quite warm just in front of your drivers chair on the carpet to the left under the gearknob surround does that get warm/hot too ?

I figured it was normal. THere isn't anything wrong with my heatshields so couldn't understand it.

I don't have carpet or centre console or anything so as far as i can tell its just the gear linkage.
