play in stearing wheel

hi all, ive got a bit of play on my stearing wheel on the valver, its annoying though becuase when im going fast it stears on its own! ive been told it needs some welding doing but I dont really have a clue, would this be an expensive job to sort out? cheers

I assume you've had the car checked out? All the usual things ball joints, track rod ends etc.

What did he say needs welding?

it had a full service and check out last week, aparently the track rods are new and have been recently replaces.... he told me its a normal fault and on the stearing collumn the rubber sal wears down after a while so it needs welding... ever heard this?

10 minute job.

push driver seat back, pull carpet and cut the rubber boot around the steering column, weld the gap on the join.

it is very common. i think most people have had to have this done
