Play in steering.

Hi welcome !! The 182 is notorious for the feeling of play in the steering how bad is it?

things that are common are play in the steering rack ie bushes or maybe knackered rack, tired bushes , ball joints , suspension , top mounts , tyres are major one lol sorry but could be a few things.

I have refreshed my whole suspension, polybushed everything new top mounts, ball joints ect brand new tyres and a full alignment and omg the difference 😀

maybe get it checked over see if anyone can point out anything obvious

good luck 👍

Hi.

Thanks. I will have a look today.

The play is quite bad. Did notice one of top mounts is not sitting right so will look at changing them.
What are good top mounts to order ?

I ordered the standard oem ones from Renault Parts Direct they are cheap and did the job !

what are the tyres like ?

That will make a difference on the way car feels honestly I did a thread on my handling issues not saying it could be the culprit mate but certainly makes a difference

Check the following:
Inner/outer track rod ends
Steering rack bushes
Tyres - huge change in steering feel based on sidewall stiffness
Topmounts
Bottom ball joint
Anti roll bar bushes
Lower arm bushes.

All of the above affect steering feel and geometry. So unfortunately could be any of the above, but all are easy to check, simple ane inexpensive to replace.

Inner tie (track) rods are a common issue, there's a balljoint on the rod which is notorious for wear.
Did both of mine and the difference was very surprising.

You need the correct tool to easily change em.
