  Clio Sport 182 Cup 2005
Howdy,

Im a car novice, fact. I'm not mentally retarded( 50/50 tho) but dont know who makes what and power gains car wise etc, not a clue.

I have a standard 182. I am getting some rims, suspension and tinting windows...thats fine and all a go.

But for the engine....I want more power. I am not a speed freak on public roads, but I like to have the power there if need be/trackdays.

I want to get the car around the 250bhp mark but I want the reliability still, thats the most important part for me.

I'm not minted sadly but if cost wasn't an issue, would a decent turbo be worth chucking on and setup etc or is that going to blow anything up? Obviously would get it setup by a pro but if it meant a rebuild every five minutes, sod that.

What other route is there? blueprinting the engine?

Thanks.

  Whichever has fuel
Throttle bodies if I were you mate.

I know 2 people running bodies, and reliability seems fine. Expect to pay circa £5k for a good setup mind you!!

to get 250bhp out of a clio you need either a turbo or supercharger. both over £5000.
other routes like itb's will get you to 230pbp (ish) with the right mods.

Hold fire for the Angelworks super charger kits.

Blue printing an engine will just give you a box fresh, 182 hp unit..... IN theory.

I'd go a Prefossionally Setup ITB'd Car runing some Wildish Cams and a really well done Remap that should see around 230bhp but don't forget Brakes if your planning on hiking up the power.

Thanks for the quick replys.

I thought 5k would be the mark ish.

Any good companies out there to buy this kit from?

Same wave length...

Brembos are my friend. Always used them on track bikes.

Honestly if you want 250bhp a clio is not for you/maybe not the best option?

Firstly to get to that sort of power its huge money, at a guess £5k? Thats for bodies, cams, headwork, exhaust mapping......

Also, have you seen how quick a car would be with that bhp/tonne ratio... Massivley if you are no speed freak you may find some cams and map a better solution.

Edit - too slow I can see you expect to pay £5k for such mods and happy with that.

230 is a lot to ask from a N/A F4R. You'd need ITBs (individual throttle bodies) and fairly lairy cams.

If your looking for 250 with loads of torque, you'll need a turbo conversion. Expect to pay £6k, and also I'd upgrade the crappy T25/8 that they give you to a proper GT28 turbo

To be honest,

I was kinda thinking that. I knew it was a tall order for this kind of car.

I just like it because its small, comfy and my insurance doesn't rape me as much as a 05 2.5 litre turbo scooby.

But I do find it slow. Even with 250bhp, I dont care if the top speed is the same, its getting there that I want.

IMO 6k is alot of money to spend for "only" 250bhp.

I think id just stick with cams,, inlets and remap, plus the usual exhaust and air filter. Uprate the brakes and get coilovers.

Strip it and have a nice 4k in the bank :)

The insurance maybe cheaper but you are paying £5k to get the car to the level you want of which you will never see back when selling it, ever. If you compare that to the additional cost for buying a new car and insurance its probably not as expensive as you first think.

Before you do anything have a search around the site and youtube for modified clios and how quick they are and if this meets your expectations. Like Ben mentions above to, if you have 250bhp and tracking it you will deff want some 4pots and h&r's and theres another £1500 straight up... I.e. £6.5k now which is prob not far off what you just paid!

If you do want something alot quicker why not think about getting a turbo car for easier and cheaper gains? Have you seen or do you like R26's as you could save for one and mod it alot easier for much larger bhp. They have lsd and 4pots as standard also.

my insurance for a scooby is around the 8k mark ringing around 30+ companies and online...

I then got to use my favourite line...

Me:Do I get a meal with that?
Phone operator:Excuse me?
Me: Normally I have a meal before I get fucked!
