Please Help - Factory Fit CD Player/Display

  Clio 2003
Hi everyone,

New to this site and to having a Clio! Wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem i've got with my car:

When I got the car there was no radio/cd player - I want the car to have a factory look - so I bought a CD Player/tuner from ebay, it looks correct in the car/lights up etc/looked at other Clios same age and it's the right one.. beeps for security code which i've got.. but when I read the book for the car it talks about entering the code using the display. My car doesn't have a display?! theres no clock/display just a recess for putting things in - looks factory fit. I wonder if:
a. I can fit a display to the car - anyone know what's needed / involved in this?
b. enter the code without a display? (if adding a display is too much hard work!)

It's a 2003 53 Clio Authentique 1.2L.

Thanks very much!
Jay

The display is next to where the clock and temp is, on a 53 plate you'll have that.

Not to sure about this, the GF's mums clio, also a 53 plate doesnt have the display. It's a DCI though, maybe the authetique models were also missing this? as I think they were the lowest model in the class.

Not to sure on the code entering though sorry, why not just get a decent sony or alipne headunit? Will provide a better amp than the stock ones which makes the speakers sound much better.

Thanks for your replies :) Beef-mc - I have some displays near the dials but nothing above the headunit, just a blank space with a rubber mat over it to put things in! Kerry-w - I did consider changing the h/unit over for something non standard but I've had bad experiences of car crime in my area so thinking i'd rather just keep it looking completely standard - no attraction. Though I would like to add the display to the car if I can, cheers

Not sure about adding display, but to enter your code, use numbers 1 to 4 to enter each number. They start at zero iirc so for example if it were 1211 you press 1 twice, 2 three times, 3 twice and four twice, then hold number 6 for a few seconds until you hear a beep. If you can no longer enter codes, it has locked itself out, but after so long it allows you to enter it again.
Hope that helps.

Adding the display shouldnt be hard, if yo remove the dash top there should be a square plug behind where your storage tray is, you plug the display into that bit. You would need a clock display complete with wiring too though which can be a right pain to find, best bet would be going to a scrappy and taking the display along with all the wiring needed.

Do you have an authentique? Dont believe they came with a display. If so you will have to get an original stereo which has the display in it, the screens about 2" by 1/2" and its terrible. Just get a cheap aftermarket as itll take you forever to find one.

my gf has got a 1.2 53 plate and where mine has the screen for temp and track hers is just a recess for putting things.

Think youve bought the wrong hu mate.

remote displays for theft deterent (because a wimpy standard-fit renault unit must be sooo nickable!)

the remote display is a double edged sword anyway, if you have one and change your head unit, you're looking at anywhere up to around £80 to get it workin again (well, that was for my alpine lead anyway)
