Today i got my new alterinater fitted , and it was fine , drove it away no problems.

Then when i picked my mate up today drove on motorway and all of sudden battery light comes on! Which means battery isnt charging!

So anyone have ideas? Cables come loose?

do a resistance check with a multimeter between the battery positive and the large positive alternator terminal(with everything switched off).what do you get?(in ohms).check for charging voltage at the large alternator terminal? do a resistance check between the engine block and the battery earth terminal, what do you get?(in ohms).check for charging voltage at the positive battery terminal? check for 12volts at the alternater exciter wire(one of the smaller terminals).put the multimeter in volts and put one lead on the positive battery terminal and one on the large positive alternator terminal-the reading you get is how much voltage your losing between the alternator and the battery.

charging voltage=13v>14.7v(with electrical consumers on EG,headlights, heated rear window etc)

resistance readings=close to 0 ohms as poss.typical reading 0>2 ohms(eg-10 ohms is a lot of resistance and would indicate a wire problem)
