Well diffs don't tend to just blow up, not without serious abuse or serious lack of servicing.

I have seen diff's blow up because the side seals have leaked all the oil out, therefore it gets to hot and bang! However you are probably right and he was having abit of sideways fun!!! I would!!! :race:

But if oil has leaked out, you've clearly not been looking after it have you? Or you'd have noticed the leaky seals and got it sorted

Lack of servicing?? It's an 09 plate ffs. Surely diffs don't need attention at two years old? Seems like a defect on the diffs' part to me..

Surprised on an '09 car, but E46 diffs go regularly.

Could quite easily have racked up 200K+ miles in 2 years.
