polished rocker cover/inlet manifold*

hi everyone,

This is my first post. Just bought myself a new MKII clio 172 (iceberg silver). I was wondering how Paul davis managed to get the polished rocker cover and inlet manifold? his picutre is on the MKII gallery. is there a special polish to use and what cloth/tool do i need? i looks really smart, like the alfa GTAs engine bay.

any help would be great

Looks smart, I agree mate. He used an air polisher to do it, however, not sure myself were you can get done, would also be interested.

You have to use progressively finer abrasive papers to get the surface smooth and remove the rough cast effect on the metal, then use a polishing wheel and compound to buff up to a nice shine.

Ive done it in the past on my old 106 GTi and it worked very well...

actually his mate at reno used an air polisher, did the job a treat. use autosol afterwards to shine it like a b**ch.

Could the same effect be achieved using a Dremel multi-tool and alot of time?!

I would say not using a dremel, teh bits are too small to create a uniform finish just somme like grey ali oxide paper, going sown to say 400 grit and then then same with wet and dry paper, going down tosya a wet 1200 grit, then sommet like chrome polish

Silicon carbide paper down to a 1200 grit finish, then hand polish with a metal cutting compound to get a good finish.

Well I bought a multi-tool with like 100 bits for £25. Thought it best to use something electric to get the top off it! Its rough as f**k standard, and would take days with the old sand paper. I know this will take days, but at least its less effort

Once ive got the top a bit sorted ill start on the paper.
