polishing the engine bay

  ITB BG 182
Im looking at polishing the usual bits with in the engine bay an was just wanting to know what people use to bring the top of the engine and the fuel rail gaurd to a mirror finish.
If its at all possible what grades of wet an dry an how much, do some people use a machine polish an where would i be able to get one from. An roughly how long does it take + where could i get heat proof laquer from to finish it off when done.

The cheapest ive found for some one doing this kind of work to bits under the bonnet has been £140 an upwards, id rather do it myself an see how i get along then possibly do it for others at a hell of a cheaper rate.:star:

Id also like to know what tips people can give for going round the "Renault Sport" lettering as wet and dry paper doesnt work. Would a dremel with a fine tip be best or is it possible to mill round the letters.

I live in the Notts area and got my Plenum and Fuel Rail Cover polished for £60. This was done at 'Impact Metal Finishers' in Colwick. Air-con pipes can be done in minutes with autosol. Here are the results of the polishing....

You will find it hard to get between lettering as this is very fine work and time consuming, this is where costs could mount. Worth a try with dremmel I suppose.

If you do go Jon can you find out how long and how much it would be to polish up 2 x plenums, 2 x fuel rail gaurds and 2 x Engine mounts too please?

Much appreciated

When I took mine down he quoted me a week or so, It would all depend on his current work load I suppose. He had mine for 10 days. Can't fault the service, very helpful chap. If you need the contact details feel free to PM me.

I would give him a call, there is a possibility you could arrange to do it on a particular day. I don't think it takes him too long but it is fitting it in with his workload.

G'day, I am looking at geeting this done in Sydney but it's heaps expensive.

How can they do it for $60, what technique is it?

Is it a polish or are they chroming it?

Any advise would be appreciated :)

I believe they use a polishing machine with mops on, industrial type equipment I assume. Not fine enough to do inbetween the lettering very well but good enough i'd say:) £60...nut sure what that is in Aussy dollars??
