possible clutch prob on 172

Ok... my wife and I have just driven down to tesco... there is a duel carriageway on the way there.. so Im in third gear and I just put my foot flat to the floor (no one was about) ... but something weird happened.. the revs went up to 5k then settled down to 4 1/2 k while Im still accelerating.. like the clutch was slipping.I couldnt get it to do it again on the way back... has anybody else had this? I remember reading somewhere that the 172 clutches werent quite up to the job.. I dont know how true this is.... maybe it was just slightly glazed.. Ive always been very careful with the clutch on this car as the one on my MR2 went and it was expensive.I havent been flooring it everywhere off the lights... the cars only done 4000 miles ... so what do u all think? just a one off or a problem?

Hi,

Definate slipping clutch, my 172 was in the dealers for the same problem not so long ago. Driving along in fifth, put my foot to the floor and weyyyyyyy, rev needle goes to 5500 rpm straight away and settles down again. I know I did not have it in neutral at the time!

Bye Bye

Ok thanks Weyland... I think Ill give my dealer a call... did the replace the whole clutch?

Matt .. yeah I did have my foot off the clutch... I know its a simple mistake to possibly make... but I a point of not riding the clutch pedal... plus I had been traveling in third gear for a lil way along the road already...
