Possible CV joint broken? help me please!

  1.2 MK2 clio
Hey, Just noticed this problem with my Mk2 renault clio....

Earlier on today, i noticed when i do tight cornering (slow or fast), for example pulling into a parking space, there is a loud banging noise coming from one of the front wheels i think, it sounds like a part of the wheel is hitting the body work. (so like one bang for every rotation of the wheel)

Later on today....noticed something different, in addition to the problem above, when pulling away in first gear the steering wheel pulls left and right rapidly, by about 5 degrees from neutral position each way. The car also feels shakey when cornering and accelerating at the same time.

Does anyone know if this is serious? im away from home at the moment so would need to drive it about 200miles to my prefered garage.

thanks for your help guys,
Peter Diffey

My CV joints (and drive shafts) were replaced this week on my 195, the banging sound is common place. The garage i took mine to (GDI) said the shafts would last 2 weeks to a month before going pop so you'll be fine.

You fill me with confidence, but ive just driven about 200 miles today mainly motorway with them like this, will it be ok to limp home to the garage? really dont want to be stuck here untill a garage can fix it :(

It'll be fine to limp home. my only advise when the problem was diagnosed was no harsh mid corner accelerating, just get sme RAC membership and you'll be fine.
