Possible dephaser issue...

  RB clio 182
If the dephaser was on its way out, would you hear it through the camshaft area, as in putting your head near the renault sport bit on top of the engine and it sounds a bit rattly/harsh ??

Im unsure because belts were done in 2010 by renault but wondering if this would include the dephaser or just belts and tensioners ??

Unless you paid for a dephaser, then no they wouldn't have done it.

Unfortunately for you, if you have the dephaser done now, its new belt kit time as well. :(

The belts were done at renault before I had the car.

So basically its not a standard service item with the belts etc.

Also If the dephaser was on its way out, would you hear it through the camshaft area like a rough noise or rattling ?

Yep!

Obviously you need to get it properly diagnosed (You're closest to Ktec Racing so go there) before you part with any money.

I have a customer who took his rattling car to Renault who then suggested he buy a 2nd hand engine and they fit that because they said the engine was shot... In my experience, i'd only ever trust a specialist as there are too many spaktards working for Renault. The spaktards definately outweigh the good mechanics at the dealers anyway!

New engine !! no way.

I think its the dephaser or maybe because im just not used to clio sport engines, there might be nothing wrong at all and it could be just the sound the actual cam shafts make !!

Just pop it down to K-tec. They'll tell you in about 20 seconds if its dephaser.

Nope, someone experienced will diagnose it with their ears. No need to touch anything.

Saying that, I've heard a lot of other noises coming from them. Dephaser is the one that seems to get banded about most of late.

^^Yep the dephaser band wagon lol,

As Budgie said there is plently other things it can be other than the dephaser

When my waterpump went it sounded like it was coming from the cam /dephaser area, and was told my engine needed rebuilding due to being a failed rocker.

^^And that wasn't a renault spaktard either
