possible faulty dephaser

  monaco blue clio 172
Anyone ever had a faulty dephaser on there clio? I fitted a new item along with the belts and pulleys less than 5000 miles ago also changed the oil and filter with genuine oil plus filter, cleaned the filter in the rocker cover but now when i start it up sometimes it makes a real harsh sound like when the dephaser was gone last time. Is this common or have i got a doddgy item? Not looking forward to changing it again if thats the case:mad:

Engines do get noisier with miles mate not every strange noise is dephaser !plenty of other things it could be dephaser not noisey from cold anyway .

more likely water pump, PAS pump, alternator or something similar. It does actually take quite a lot for a dephaser to die, so unless it's getting starved of oil I very much doubt it's your issue after so few miles

Its 100% the dephaser thats making the noise only on start up it does it, if it was any of the ubove im sure the noise would be there all the time. maybe it be worth me pulling the sump off to make sure the pick up pipe isnt blocked?

It sounds like you have an oil supply issue. What oil filter is fitted? some non genuine filters don't have a non return valve, so take a few seconds to fill up, this means it takes a few seconds for oil pressure to build.

What you describe is not dephaser failure

Its all genuine renault items fitted. Pulled the sump of this morning and pick up pick was nice and clean so that rules that out. Will do an oil pressure test when im back in work on monday.

if its all genuine parts then send the car to the dealer and let them fix it, its under warranty

I fitted all the parts myself fred. Im going down this morning to speak to the master tech there to see what he thinks the noise is if he confirms its the dephaser which i think he will then it must be faulty. Have you ever had one of these faulty as i have read that you are the man in the know with renaults.

It could be one of the other pulleys making a noise.I had one replaced on mine a couple of years ago. I've also had the dephaser done when the timing belt was done at Birchdown last autumn.

It has been confirmed that it is the dephaser making the noise, they say they will warrent the part only not labour providing i take it in to them, for them to diagnose and make sure i dont have an oil pressure problem.

So in a nut shell it could end up costing me more than what it would be to buy another dephaser
