Possible new owner of a Clio Sport 182

I all, I'm looking for a nice 182 to replace my poor old Clio Williams 2.
I test drove a clean one today (05 Reg) and found it to be quite long geared so it felt a little slow. It was totally standard so maybe this would be the reason?
Anyway what sort of things should I look out for? And what spec is best?

Make sure its had the cambelt done by someone who knows what they're doing with the correct timing tools

If it hasn't , budget a few hundred quid for it doing and take it to one of the specialists on here

Should be done at the latest every 72k or 5 years which ever comes first

Hi, thanks for replies. I say it felt a little slow compared to my Williams. But to be fair the Williams does have a SS 4-2-1 manifold, decat and SS cat back exhaust with Gunner chip so is quite sprightly.

I have just test driven another 182 (54 Reg) with 66k it's had cam belt done apparently. The steering wheel and gear nob are pretty worn for a car with 66k. The main thing that put me off was the fact the front drivers side strut was not fixed in the turret at the top. The mount looks to be missing underneath. What would cause this? Is it an easy fix?

Hi mate, Wobba here.Just got a 182 myself. Standard pretty much. To compare back to back, the 182 is much better built with much better stuff etc. Very quiet compared to Willy! the 182 has a nice spread of torque and can be driven hard, though compared to my total nutter spec Willy it's tame hehe, but not slow, and I get much better MPG.The steering wheels always go bad.Not sure about the strut. Should have the big rubber top mount if the 182 is the same as Williams, no idea why someone would remove...must have knocked surely?

Ah ello mate, long time.
You had your Williams arches done and other rusty bits before your itbs didnt you?
What it cost you mate. Im seriously considering getting shot of the Williams as I dont think ill be able to afford to fix it up.
