Possible upgrade on brakes

Car  Clio MK 4
Mine are squeaking badly and need replacing so thought might aswell spend a bit more and upgrade them. I'm not very clued up on them so wondered if this sounds ok? I've searched on here and think this is quite a good set up?

Brake Pads - DS2500's
Brake Discs - Brembo High Carbon's
Brake Lines - Goodridge Braided Brake Lines or KTR BRAIDED BRAKE LINES C/W STAINLESS FIXINGS
Brake Fluid - DOT 5.1

Should i change the calipers or will this not matter so much. All this for fronts only as i believe standard rear brakes are ok?

Now the question is where to get it all? been looking at yozzasport and ktec. Are there cheaper places?

I

sounds good if its for road use, if you use the car on track alot i would look at bigger discs and calipers. standard rears will be fine - they only do a small part of the braking anyway

Stay with HCs, no point on getting the grooved, you wont notice anything.

I doubt there is much difference between the lines too, just price!

ye no track days. Is there much point on getting the Brembo Max Grooved disks over Brembo High Carbon's? Will i notice much difference.

Whats best between these

i would imagine the high carbon ones can take more heat - not totally sure though. the hoses are going to much of a muchness really - they do the same job making the pedal feel firmer and less squashy so whichever cheapest

You don't need bigger discs or new calipers for the track and oem rears are more than adequate. I run the same setup but with Tarox G88 grooved discs and don't get any fade.

As for brake fluid., is 5.1 alright or does it need to be DOT 4? I'll be getting a local garage to fit it all so will they have the brake fluid i want or would i need to buy it myself?

also one to consider for fluid is ate's super blue - very good stuff.

Now question is how does adding all this do to the insurance in general?

Does it go up by much? As i would have thought insurance companies would rather you had better brakes?

I'm with HIC btw

not sure, in one sense it should go down as you've got better than standard brakes, but on the other hand they might think that because your fitting uprated brakes your going to drive like a loony all the time, and double your premium for good measure

o right I see. I'll give them a call and see what they say.

Just out of curiosity how much you think a garage would charge to fit all the stuff?

most garages are around £40 - £50 per hour for labour. to fit new pads, discs, hoses, fluid bleed the system etc i would say approx 4 hours - very rough approx though

Discs and pads are easy to replace. Hoses and fluid are easy enough but easy to get wrong. I did my entire system with very little knowledge, thanks to Cliosport. There's lots of guides and help on here from people who know their s**t.

IMO don't be afraid to work on your own car. You'll learn lots about it by having a go :)

If it was for road only the only thing I'd do is the lines - standard brakes are more than capable, but the lines would improve the pedal feel.

Save yourself some money, changes the lines, give it a flush/bleed with some decent fluid and stick with standard pads/discs.

At the moment they squeak quite badly so is that a sign i will need to buy news pads or disks anyway?

Would this be the case?

the pads might just need a clean-up (dust can get trapped between the pads and disc, making them squeal when you brake. taking them out and cleaning them with some emerry cloth usually does the trick. pads normally grind when they are low on material

My thoughts are to maybe only get new braided lines brake fluid and the feroda pads leaving out the hc brembo disks to save money. Is there much point using better pads on standard disks?

Do you mean putting new pads on with old discs? Depends how worn your old discs are, if your buying DS2500s which aren't cheap I'd spend the extra on new discs. Ktec do a good deal http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2772

I replaced the brakes on the 172 with Brembo High Carbon discs and uprated Ferodo pads, not DS2500s but I got the discs for £51 and pads for £36 from Pentland Components in Edinburgh that was only 2 weeks ago...
