As above, i would be grateful if people could post up pics of their in-car gatgets and gizmos.

Only DVD/iPod Head Unit pics though please.

I'm about to order a TomTom One Europe and i wondered if the dash will look cluttered, considering i already have a Road Angel hardwired in at the centre. :S

Anyways, i'll kick off with mine at the moment...

Cheers

how often wud u use the tom tom chris?
i have the same layout as you with the road angel, then i have the alpine with the ipod sat in the cup holders.
when i use the tom tom i put it on the right hand side of the steering wheel so it doesnt look too cluttered.

I just sold my RA2 and got satnav.

Carbon Copy: Do you prefer the RA up that high? If you stick the suckers in the non-heat reflecting bit, its sits nicely on the dash.

cheers mate

the tomtom would be dead handy as i'm using my car for work sometimes.

plus, i've just always liked them, and have heard good things about the One.

ummm at the mo mines:

alpine 9855r
alpine kca-420i
ipod mini 4gb
tomtom go 700

(yes before anyone says its dangerous i dont care, i dont really use it for route planning just speed cameras ;) )

ipod mini in glovebox, kca-420i behind the dash, control the ipod through the headunit...

tomtom go 700 hard wired into the power, permanantly mounted in the cup holders, permanant external antenna (well its on the back shelf) and external mic for recieving calls...

tbh mate, that pic makes it look a lot higher than it really is.

i would say half of the suction pads are now on the little clear window thing.

Oh, and ive got a TT one mate. Highly recommend it. Dont see the need to buy more expensive versions.

all in, including the ipod its touchin £2k, and your right, weighs too much, think im gonna strip it all out!

seriously awesome unit though.. and guess as long as im still faster than the FF's, then thats all that matters ;)

No Pics - Got my RA2 where yours is Chris in the center but lower.

Ipod is Installed in the Glove Box with a Dension dock cable so I dont see it,out the way so never an issue.

My TomTom One is on the drivers side at the bottem corner next to the A pillar. Does look odd having both the RA2 and One stuck to the screen but I only use the TomTom on journeys I don't know where I am going though.

Though if the RA2 gets outlawed this will no longer be an issue!

perfect.

exactly what i'm doing Rich.

what's the battery life like for the One? do you really need to hardwire it in?

Only just got it so no real battery life figures yet. Got a longish run down to Rentech on Sat so will see how it goes.

cheers guys.

ordering it tomorrow, although i might hardwire it as it'll be staying in the car most of the time due to me using the car for work quite often until the summer.

anyone else is still welcome to post pics though, just so i could see some different set-ups.

Ta!

I got a promo email from amazon for the tomtom one for 160 i think... might be worth a look.

Ive had just over 3 hours in operational mode. Dont think ill bother hard wiring it in.

FPMSL

always thought about gettin a sat nav, tend to just type the addy into the AA website but it is so s**t and slow at getting used to new roads etc, usually end up using my sense of direction!!

pro's and cons people? (not hijacking mate ;)) -->>>

not the best pic in the world; and not that uptodate since ive had an upgrade as this kept breaking; but 9853r, now a 9855r. big quality difference, god knows why.

and yes my dash was greasy through messing with cleaning exterior and engine bay then not cleaning the inside properly lol

Jamie, best thing with the TomTom is you don't need to route plan as it does it as you go and you have the added benifit of the speed camera locations too.

that what i was thinkin mate, but just always see them for 100s of pounds and think " why not just use a map!!" lol. guess theyre good if you make a wrong turn thought as they plan it from where you are.

what would everyone suggest sat nav/make/model?

jamie

  RB 182
I've looked into it before and the TomTom of any sort comes up every time, most of the time the TomTom One is all that people need. It's simple to use and has all the features you need, you can also upgrade easily.

ok cheers ben mate, might have to invest, any hidden charges like 50 quid a year for updates etc?

jamie

  RB 182
There isn't any need to upgrade really only the speed cameras, you might want to update the maps every year or so but you aren't forced to do it. I would say it's a very good investment if your going to places you don't know for example.
