Potential Newbie!

Car  Beaten up 182
Hi, I'm looking at changing cars soon and my budget is is going to be a paltry £1500. While scouring Autotrader to get some ideas and found the Clio 172 was in my budget. I'm after something fun and don't mind getting my hands dirty (10 years of modifying 200sx's has seen to that). I noticed a few with less than 100k miles and from what I've read as long as it's well looked after that shouldn't be a problem?
Are the 172's starting to show any signs of rust?

Welcome, you shouldn't see any rust unless it's been subject to a poor repair at some stage.

Thanks guys. It's good to see a friendly active forum too.

Good to hear. I'm into detailing, any repairs will show up on my paint depth gauge!

There are a few nice looking cars in the forsale section around your budget, you will need to be a member to view though.

Well worth becoming a member, plenty of discounts and access to a number of great specialists, you will make your £12 membership back in the first few months ownership.

Welcome dude!

On the odd occasion you might find a small patch of bubbling. Like on the front of the bumper or near the engine mount. But other than that when I was looking a little while ago, I didn't see many with rust.

Sounds interesting. I was a member of the SXOC, the 200sx owners club for 13 years (I must be getting old) and appreciate just how useful a club like this is.

I just sold some wheels of I'd put them on eBay I'd of paid £30 in fees.

Well, I'm finally in the club, picked up a black 182 Cup today. It's not the cleanest example so will be a bit of a project.

Paid up member now and already the guides are helping me bring my unloved 182 back to being (hopefully!) a respectable and incredibly fun car.

Hi, fellow newbie here too. Did you have to stretch your budget in the end for the 182?

No but it's not the tidiest example and I have thought should I have gone for a cleaner 172 but it's coming along. It has a full service history and the cambelt and clutch was done two years ago, it has 105k miles. The alternator is shot and it was basically just a mess but the body is straight and the engine sounds good, no dephaser noise. I like a project!
I ended up paying £1600.

This is it,

Bit of TLC and its looking good, seems like a pretty good price to me, not that I have much of a clue, still yet to make a purchase, but on the hunt!
