Power steering groan..

Everytime I move the steering wheel anymore than 6" on the Almera I'm using, I get a horrible groaning/rubbing noise.

It's not rubbing on the arches anywhere- I've checked.

It only really happens when the engine is idling, like if i'm parking or 3point turning, but if i keep the revs up a little, it's fine.

Ideas? Aux belt not tight enough? Fluid low possibly?

Used to happen on my Mera Gti when the fluid was low... worth givin it a check... the cap for the reservoir has a little dipstick indicator on it so is easy to tell!!

Yeah tended to but not ideal... !?! I'd give that a try first... Halfrauds or somewhere like that would advise the right fluids!! It's no more than about £6-7 for a 1lt bottle and you won't use that all at once!?!
