Power steering removal?

  172, BMW 650i & X5
Hi All, just finished last track day of the season in my 2000 Ph1 172. Already thinking of mods for next year and have a small list of 'to do's'.
I was wondering if anyone has installed a standard steering rack (NON power steering). I like the idea of this as steering mostly will be done at speed and also there should be a noteable weight reduction between rack, pump & auxiliaries along with more workable space in engine bay
Has anyone here done this?
Is there any electrical requirements?
If so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated?
Many thanks in advance...

Im in the process of doing this on my ph2 172.

Removed the rack, pump, all the lines (what a pain they are!).

Fitting a DCi 2.75 turn rack - ring autosteer direct they do refurbished ones. Make sure you get the rubber boot and the sensor to plug the holes.

You can loop the standard rack and run that, Im using the DCi because it was meant to run with no fluid etc. and is lighter and easier to slide in and out of the subframe, and no bushes to perish as it is solidly mounted.

No electrical requirements unless you run EPAS.

Think you need to remove the aircon and fit a cup alternator as well for the belt run.

Brilliant reply.
I already have the air con out.
Sourcing the right rack had just been made a little easier too. I imagine when you talk of looped circuit you simply mean a single oil filled hose connecting both oil ports?
