Power, the next step

OK, been about a week now and liking the Cliosport site. There's mountains of information and more than one company or person that can deal with the same things.

So, at the moment i'm running a stealth exhaust and the R21 turbo or V6 airbox with direct airfeed to the foglight. My money is hard earned so spending it has to be done wisely, i'd like to take the Clio to the next step.

My thinking is:

Matched inlets, decat, then having this done it would need the ecu recalibrating... So, do i go straight in with the package deal? I like the Clio 172 on the whole, i don't wish to take it to TB levels just enjoy it for what it is on track. So my thinking is to tweek what's already under the bonnet and make it more refined.

How does this sound?

That's the approach that most take. It gives you more drivability and a better torque curve even if there's not much peak power to be had.

Lightweight is the way to go with the Clio.

ive done the usuall. Exhaust, inlets, filter and decat. Loving the power atm, and dont feel the need to go looking for more.
Ive got the 'weight' bug on going with my clio. Ive completley removed the A/C and replaced the heater motor with the cup item. Spare wheel and std jack box ,Sound deadening and rear wiper and motor removed.
Im trying to keep the interior in as i use the car everyday, just looking to remove more things now.
Any suggestions while we're on topic of weight loss?

De wiperd mine and I find it easy to get on with, cuz I clean mine all the time so the back window is always clean. Do it. Looks better, you just need to get a rubber grommet to cover the hole that's left.

As mentioned before dude, matched inlets are the way to go. Best bang for buck ! Decat will make it a bit more free-revving as well.

You won't need ECU re-cal after that, though I'm sure a re-map won't hurt !

Both my housemate and I had the matched inlets done at the same time at Jam-Sport, and we both thought that having it done had fubar'd the drivability, but after about 10 miles it seemed to sort itself out. Maybe the ECU learns or maybe it was just weird co-incidence.

its fine without the rear wiper. Never bothered me without it. And looks 1000x better without.

Theres a job for tomorrow then :)

if your happy with doing this both air bags are heavy, front and rear bumpers can lose pounds when stripped go hand winders on windows, as for power upgrades imo dont bother unless you want to spend ££££ and get feed placibo pills

+1

Suspension, brakes and weight loss are the 3 things to focus on mainly, won't cost as much as trying to get more power and you'll have twice as much fun on track.

I didn't mind removing the rear bench seat, black bar behind the seats, all parcel shelf gubbins and some rear interior plastics. I'm not sure i'd go too much further with weight reduction as it's still an everyday car not an all out track weapon..... yet :S I liked the bucket seats no rear seat look.

As for suspension i'm runnng coilovers, brakes are also upgraded using DS2500 pads, grooved discs, new brake fluid and braided hoses, new oe rear brakes and pads. So i thougt now that's done i'll turn my attention to modifications to help it but not bank breaking.

So, i'm thinking decat and matched inlets. The air filter side of things works but the restriction is in the inlet and the cat. Or is it worth going all the way and going for say the package that someone like JMS provide? I use JMS as an example as i came across a thread the other day about it

Considering the mods you've done, which all sound spot on.

Decat, matched inlets and maybe relocate battery and run your V6 airbox straight off throttle body (cup racer style) with pipercross race filter. Then get live remap afterwards.

Btw I think JMS proved a forced air feed from the fog light does more harm than good, I know when I had one into my standard ph2 box I made s**t all on the rollers.

More harm than than good as it made nothing on the rollers?? IMO direct 102mm diameter flexi pipe feed from the foglight to the bigger box will help the breathing.... surely better than my old setup that had a cheap Max Power style induction filter fitted to the end of the OE inlet pipe.

Learn to drive it - get some driver training. Not trying to cause any offence but you will be the limiting factor of the car, i recon that would be the best money you could spend...

Its to do with the air pressure or density with the pipe being that low iirc, best place for pickup is at the grill level.

i have tried lots of different set ups back on back on the rollers air feed on/off direct to tb so on and on, guess what made little or no difference, if you want noise to make you think your going faster then carry on, just hate any one to waist ££££££ on these cars like i have over the years thinking your getting some where, its very little for big bucks

I know the cheapest way to make or handle better abs go faster is to lose seats And so on but the exhaust sound really drones from the back with no seats and IMO if it's a daily it will just wind you up.
