Re
Just had a phone call from the local renault dealer. I have had problems with a missfire etc loss of power etc.

Anyway they tell me it is a "Pressure Sensor" and want to charge me £132 +vat.

I know this is going to be way more than the sensor actually costs but what do they mean by pressure sensor.

Any Ideas?

Did they say how long it would take to do the job ?

no they didnt say. They just said that they would have to order the part in and that I am probebly looking at monday.

Which is no good because ive traded the car in. Ive got all my insurance documents dated for the change of cars as of midnight tomorrow night. so it would be a nightmare to change it all back again.
Never mind the £21 admin fee! twice.

If you have traded it in, its no longer your problem ? surely they will sort it out ?

There be a few people on here with a spare one im sure that will help you out, get the part number off them if you can, fitting is literally a 2 minute job

yeah i thought that but until i deliver it it has to be in the same condition that it was in when they valued it.

Ie it has to drive correctly.

find out the part number if you can! if they're charging labour to fit a MAP sensor then thats a piss take IMO it takes 30sec

Like Fred said, they just push into the inlet manifold! I have a spare if you want it?

Make sure it is the MAP sensor though, lol. MAP=Manifold absolute pressure.

It is indeed but isnt there like a £50 or so initial charge with dealers anyway regardless of whether its a an hours work or 2 mins

Not right, but i think its a similar procedure to that i think

have they charged you diagnosis on top of that?
fred surely you understand that you are in the trade arent you? although the map sensor its self takes 10secs to fit i would still charge half an hour labour if i got the job - to make it worth my while spending my times trying to diagnose the thing in the first place

well i guess thats what seperates me from the blood suckers out there

i would never charge anyone for replacing a MAP sensor (apart from the part obviously, or if i had to spend time (ie more than 5min with the computer) diagnosing the fault)

its daylight robbery in my eyes

I don't see what the issue is your cars not under warnetly and has a problem which you havn't said what parts needs changing the dealership spends time finding the problem and then they find the faulty sensor and chnage it and chnage you labour to find the problem and money to chnage the faulty sensor.

As for people saying XYZ woulnd't have charged you that well hey the garages have to pay huge bills at the end of the day free problem finding doesn't exists for a garage. You droped it off there you have to accept find the problemcould have taken ages if it were loom etc and accept the bill or not take it there.

exactly - i see what you are saying fred its a nice gesture and all the rest of it. but my boss certainly wouldnt keep me on if i were to go round doing jobs for free if they took less than book time.
