Some people think their car is worth more than others. Others want a quick sale.

Simple.

there are large differences in prices simple because alot of them have had a hard life and have been trashed and people want rid of them, others you will pay more for a well looked after example which has all the service documents etc.

i'd happily pay a little more to get a good one.

Sadly, that's not always the case.

There's no such thing as a good one. ;)

Welcome to the forum wicker man, around member from East Anglia, getting quite a few of us now :)

As above really though mate. I would never really get a car from a dealers as it always seems like a waste of cash even if you are trading in.

its the enthusiasts who advertise them high.

If you go onto ebay an do a "completed listing only" search on advance search, you can get a feel for the ACTUAL prices these are selling for, and those which are not selling due to higher list prices.

Only a handful are selling, and these are the lower-mid priced sensibles ones.

  None
Also try comparing what sites like parkers say they are worth and check this against the prices being asked, the dealer book price for mine when i got it was £6700 so i looked around and found several for sale at or around this price.

I searched ages for the bean colour but they where to far up north for me. I settled with a black gold in the end and im very happy with it. No problems yet, not even the cold start issues that appear often on here. I waited for a good one and it paid off. Just wish it was in the adam colour lol.

Ive been helping Snails from the forum look for a 172 at the moment in our area, there isnt a great deal about but a few half decent ones. There is a nice 172 for sale on here for £4600, 04 plate with 37k, belts done, coilovers, ktec stealth. Looks mint and has had all the right things done, located in MK though.

This one:

looks nice but i dont like siliver lol

spose it depends how much you dont mind traveling, me tank of gas in golf tomorrow morning turn the satnav on & we're away to the far reaching corners of this land

theres a few 172's at a car dealer i know in norwich fella siliver & a black one when i was there other day looked in good nick

That's way overpriced for a silver 172! It's the cheapest colour! lol..

£4k max.

Keep looking dude, you'll find one. A lot of the Infero's (orange colour) are Cups and not Cup packed ones. Just something to keep an eye on as they're worth less.

I think mileage has a big influence on the price too, low milers are up for at least a grand more than a car with over 60k on clock, for either 172ss or 182s.

Restricting yourself to a dealer isn't ideal as you could get a car that's been a dog. Granted you could get that buying privately too but when I was buying my 172 I wanted to know the previous owner so I had an idea of how robust it was. My 182 was a good one - no real issues just minor niggles covered under warranty - not all are so lucky...

This site is a great place to check the cars history if you know who's owned it.

seems like 182s are holding good money then if they are still 5-6k. Mine was written off almost a year ago and I got paid out £6k. was an 05 plate on 53k miles.

well boi's been to look at a 172 cup today didnt buy it becouse the bodywork was just so ratty the tracking was a mile of & it had the worlds loudist tappet lmao but was impressed with them it felt more alive than the 182 with cup packs that i drove

can anyone answer a few questions for me please

is it 195 or 205 width tyres on a 172 cup? thought it was 205 but mybe im wrong

& when i stuck my foot down in it for about second this green light flashed on in the right hand of the dash?

the hunt continues
