They give you a new disc there and then so you may as well take it with you saves posting it back to them.

another quick question the plate my mrs bought me is ADY 554D but having a quick scan through the forums most people with private plate have gone for a prefix type i.e J44 ADY any ideas why the style she has got is not so popular???
sorry if this is a dumb question but all this is new to me i have been wanting one for a while but never got round to it..

I got a private plate from my girlfriend for christmas. Im now the proud owner of R8 OJP!

Now all i need is an R8....

Is the plate on retention? I have had my plate for about 5 yrs, it's a bit of a pain when you want to transfer from one car to another as it can delay the process of buying another car and DVLA arn't the fastest of workers!!

Take along with you the disc and all paperwork for your car and the new plate.

My lovely missus bought me a new plate for Xmas too.

What a great gal.

Do you need to take any insurance cover note with you when you go to the DVLA ?

The plate with the three letters at the beginning, then the numbers etc is a suffix plate. I've got one too :)

ADY 554D is the old school before dvla select came along.

Rarer;)
Any ideas on how to get a dateless off dvla? Rather than another company?

The dvla only sell ones with a year letter on them, unless you buy from a dvla auction (as per most of the other places like reg transfers etc) who buy there & then sell them on (usually with a three times mark up)

Just need to take the documents you got from the DVLA, the cars MOT cert(if it has one) and your V5, they'll keep the V5 and the MOT and give you a new tax disc, with an envelope to post the old one back in, but i never did. Few weeks later you'll get a new V5, and a new MOT cert showing the new reg

I didnt take my tax disc in with me, because the car was parked on a main road, and wasnt keen on leaving it there with no visible tax disc
