Private Plate

I need to take my private plate off the clio to sell the car, i know it will cost me £80 with the dvla to do this... but whats the process? It wont be going straight onto a new car, is this a problem?

how do get the ball rolling with taking it off and getting the 172 its new plate?

whats the process of putting the plate onto a new car, is there any cost to this?

many thanks :)

You will have to remove it and put it on rentention Which will cost you £105

£80 Quid transfer and the £25 for a years retention.

All the details of how to do it are in step by step form on the DVLA site. You need the relevant form or go to the local office and do it there and then.

Think its gone up from £80 now, ring up the dvla office in bournemouth and then take all your documents there and they print the new tax disc, v5, MOT certificate while you wait. Thats what I did when I registered mine.

thanks Rich.

will they issue my car with a new reg there and then?

i tried finding the info on dvla's website but i got lost lol

Will go back onto the origional plate 99% of the time, my 309 and 306 both did when I transfered my plate. I have always done it over the counter there and then, but some local offices won't do it these days going by previous posts on here. Worth a phone call before making a trip down

No they wont, it will be sent to you in 5 - 7 working days as it's now a postal service. The new tax disc and MOT certificate will also arrive this way. You then have to wait (upto four weeks) for the new V5 to vome through, and as such are unable to sell the car in this time.

when you pay the £80 transfer fee, does this include transferring it onto the new car when you buy one aswell, or is this another £80 on top?

Just the one of fee 80 quid the plate is ready to allocate for no other costs, this only works if you already have the new car ready to put it on, other wise it is the 105 quid retention route.

okay thats cool, thanks for the info.

sorry for the hijack fubar!
