Prob with my clio

Hi guys first post.

Changed over shocks today and went for a drive, The steering is all over the place, the car shoots to the side if i turn wheel slightly and also wheels are rubbing like hell. They hav ever rubbed before. The new shocks are higher as the old ones were knackered.

I no the trackinf is out so would changeng the shocks make much difference,

Have you replaced them with Renault shocks or aftermarket? If so what make etc?
Oh and welcome :)

I might get the tracking done tomorrow, Its a pain because last time we had to remove the front bumper and fit some smaller wheels on it so it would go up the rams and the laser would fit around the wheels,

its been stored up for 8 months, got it on the road friday handling was fine with knackered shocks but all over the place with new shocks and cant corner without rubbing, there isnt a left and right hand shock is there?

are the bolt holes on the strut fixed or adjustable? if they are adjustable (sounds like it) then its needing set up and thats whats causing your rubbing.

tracking should be out slightly but shouldnt make too much difference.

Guess what it was, I had bought 1.8 RSI shocks instead of the 1.2 ones. must of said it was a 1.8 when asked engine size. Anyways bought some gas shocks for a 1.2 clio and its fine now, The wheels arnt as wide with the proper shocks and the handling is spot on no rubbing, If anyone wants to buy some gas shocks for a mk 1 clio 1.8 rsi let me no, Only where on car for 2 days, Shelley
