i was told ages ago that you can use vaseline on your tyres to get the showroom shine ? any thoughts?

vaseline is oil based so dont put it on rubber (of any kind)

Yes, you can put it on your tyres.

But that doesn't mean it will a; look good or b; be a good idea.

I could put it on my steering wheel - it would make it more shiney, but it isn't a good idea.

Paint work, no. Plastic trim with polish/wax stains, yes! It will remove it.

I've never found it to do that. Saying that, I never have time to drive it straight after cleaning it. Usually the next day before I drive it.

Use smooth penut butter! Saves the scratches!

I use http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+G4116 spray a bit on and use a smallish paint brush to rub in, dont get any spray onto the brakes or sidewall!!! Job done Nice ans shiny.
