Problem gone away

So front left started making a strange grinding noise when going round corners after hitting a speed bump. Kwik Fit couldn`t find a fault (yeah I know, but still haven't been advised of any decent garages around Redhill) and I reckoned it was the CV joint as the gators been off for about 4 months now.

However the noise has stopped. Got a replacement drives shaft but should I bother and just pack the existing joint and reattach the gator?
