Problem removing radiator hoses

I have had a lengthy search online but I am struggling here... I need to disconnect the coolant hoses at the back of the engine bay where they go through the firewall. The connectors have two small black "buttons" on either side, but no matter what I've tried I can get them to shift. Does this need a special tool, or is it me who is the tool here?

Please put me out of my misery.

Ok, so it was just a case of pushing them in together after all... Far from easy though

I ended cutting mine off with a hacksaw.
