Problem since changing the battery - Help? Bad earth?

Last week i put my old standard battery back on due to the cold weather the racing battery just wasnt feeling the love.

The standard battery had been in the garage for a good few months, so i charged it up before i refitted it.

Been taking it steady since its been on mainly due to the weather, but thursday night i decided to open it up and get rid of a few cobwebs, 3rd gear down the slip road, up to about 7000rpm ish the car loses power, still running but wont rev, i pull over it cuts out, i start it again and its all fine?

Did it again on the way home just, has never done this before with the other battery.

Any ideas?

Worth cracking in the race battery to see if that fixes anything or rules the battery out

Yeh, im going to clean all the earthing points aswell, as they have been exposed to the elements for about 4 months, and only just started to be used again.

Seem after searching its going into limp mode, as it will limit the revs, but be fine after i restart the engine.

sound like a rich misfire, possibly down to a weak spark. Was the old battery sat on the cold concrete floor? Also have a look at the power terminal onto the alternator as they're a common failure

Lol. Cold as fook garage aswell. Looks like it might be that then. As it's only started doing it since changing the battery

Turned out to be s**t earth. Cleaned up, all sorted now :)

s**t earth on the battery, or the main earth on the gearbox ben?

seems alot ov people are gettin probelms at the momenet including myself with this weather :dead:

Did it again tonight :( Changed my spark plugs at the same time i changed the battery, anything to do with spark plugs? Runs fine unless you take it above 7k.

Cuts power, but car is still running, turn it off and back on again and its fine again?..........

Thing that makes no sense is i can do 140 in 5th gear with no problems, not missing a beat, but as soon as i go over 7k in any gear, it kills the power, and will just keep running the engine but wont let me rev unless i turn it off and back on again.

It'll be in the side of the throttle bodies, dunno how it could be tested. Maybe even cleaned or something?
Do you have access to the gotech software yourself or just the mappers?

Yeah i'd say so. At least they will be able to tell if theres any difference in the map or anything needs reset or something.

Cool, im going to refit my other battery tommorow night. As its only started since i changed that, and the spark plugs.

So will see what the battery does. If no change then its an early morning start to Northampton :)

i'd love 28% transmission loss ;) (on a RR-graph that is !)

i also want to see what your prblem is here, i'm almost thinking lambda. I'll be reading up

** edit ** When looking for a new battery last week, comparing prices, the good man at the shop told me to watch out for the right AMP battery. This because i stated that another place had a much better price than his.

Mind you, the other place was also offering the battery for a Clio RS, cheaper, and most probable the amps were slightly different

MAY be your prob !?

Will the managment be able to tell what the fault is? I imagine the normal OBII port will still work, i dont know if im getting lights on the dash, as they are on anyway due to the managment.

Yeah not a problem pal, just let me know.

If I don't go to the meet I'd be happy to meet you halfway somewhere :)

wont be the lambda sensor at 7k rpm. what spark plugs did you fit, same as the ones that came out?

try putting the old plugs back in, see what happens, best thing to do is change the parts you changed back to the old stuff, work backwards.

no problems popping it up and letting us have a look tho.

Nope, no difference. Same plug just advertised incorrectly.
PFR6E-10 as fitted to mine, exactly the same as the ones we took out :approve:
