Problem with 16v Phase 1 Driver seat

Hey people.

Ive got a slight problem with my drivers seat in my car.
The interior is from a Mk 1 Phase 1 16v (black blue / yellow)

Basically when i lift the drivers seat to let passenger in the back, The seat wont return propperly unless i press heavily on it, and press down on the bar behind the seat that is used to release it.

Does anyone know if their might be a clip / spring that needs replacing or maybe even just putting back into position as i have been told my car could fail an MOT for this.

Ive got the same prob with my passenger seat on my valver, it all started when the car was broken into, must have twisted it or something

I think that there is a snapped spring on the seat though as i also need to push down the arm for it to lock..

Yeah, my drivers seat does that too although I find placing my not so svelte arse on the seat after Ive tilted it locks it in place.

Mine did exactly the same! I got P*** off after many hours of messing about with it so I got the grinder out and nade the latch a little deeper. Solved the problem and locks everytime!

Or, I just have a couple of doors at the back so you dont have to move the seats.. Sorted!

lol after takin the leather out of my silver valver after the crash the subframes are usless bent to fuk but chassis seemed ok must jus be weak

jus get a new subframe easy to change or take seat out an try an sort it only 2 minute job

Gonna have a closer look and take some photos. Will examine the photos as its much easier for me to look at photos than be on my back lookin under a chair

(Went out for first drive int car the other day - Absolutely wonderfull. I absolutely adore its heavy twitchy steering and "brake pedal" like clutch.)

OK i had a look at this problem the other day and it apears that on my passenger seat which is fine. The seat back is joined to the seat bottom. Whereas on my driver seat (which is the problemous one) it isnt attatched and its lose. When the seat is down in position it wont lean back but it will lean forwards.

Anyone any idea what i could do ?
