problems with speakers...help

  clio 182
hi guys. fitted a set of pioneer components up front and having a few problems. every so often when i turn it up they will make a crackling sound. if i turn the headunit down and back up it stops. i used to have a kenwood in and they would do it all the time over vol level 20. put my standard h/u back in and this cured it until today when it did it again for a few seconds.

i wired the speakers straight in place but didnt bother using the new crossover box as didnt think it would be needed.

any ideas??? cheers

youve more than likely knackered the tweeters, the crossovers are supplied for a reason!they filter out all the unwanted frequencies to the woofer or the tweeter.the lower frequencies will have killed your tweeters

thing is its fine with the standard h/u apart from the 1 time yet its awful with my kenwood. iv got a 182 and i thought they would already have some sort of crossover as standard for the standard speakers and tweeters? so i thought it would just be a case of just swapping the mids and tweeters, am i wrong???

dont usually have components tbh just thought would be better to upgrade everything.

got my standard clio h/u in now and seems fine again lol

your headunit wont be giving out anywhere near as higher output hence why its "ok".
there are no crossovers as standard, the tweeters and woofer have built in filters-YOU NEED THE CROSSOVER

crossovers seperate all the diff frequencys i think??? put the crossovers in now and put the kenwood back in. seems to be ok (fingers crossed) cheers for the advice

yep thats pretty much it,splits the signal of high and low frequencies to the correct speaker allowing each speaker to concentrate on what it should be doing.
