Project: BMW E21.

Some form of spit will beat lying underneath it on a freezing cold floor with all the s**t dropping in your face mind! Welding like that isn't going to be fun.

It's not going to have to be massively strong, like you say it'll barely weigh anything bare. 4 of us lifted the Nissan and I'd left the front subframe on, glass and dash in and filled the car with scrap.

Bodykit arrived today, looks decent, front end needs some repair, as expected.

Also, my membership pack arrived for BMW Car Club - Great Britain.

Also, I thought I'd share something I feel is quite special about the car, the owners handbook :)

Inside which is a full European road map, including all the BMW service centers in Europe at the time of print.

Also present are the Service tokens.

Also is a complete list of everything the first owner, a retired police officer, did to the car, from 77 to 91.

A good handful of pages in total.

Gotta love BMW and their ways :approve:

This is why i'd love to have a classic car. They have a story to tell, have more personality and it's interesting to see what sort of life it's lived over the years.

It's got a boat load more than that!

Got a load of pics of it being restored (rear windows and quarters)

It has an amazingly comprehensive history to it :)

  'Mia' Rover Mini 35
History is better than anything with a car (Coughs* still don't know if my Mini's mileage is genuine. NO HISTORY lol) Cant complain at £500.

Did you figure out which welder to get?

I'm still scanning eBay for a decent priced second hand one.

I'm now unsure whether to get the welding done professionally or not, one of the holes in the floor runs along an old weld seam, which means if I weld it, it's probably going to tear open again, if I get someone who really knows what they're doing, it's less likely to re-open.

I've had a bit of a stall with it recently, awful weather has put work on hold a little bit, hopefully decent progress will be made this week though :)

Coilovers should be here in the next few days :)

Okay, so a busy night tonight. It's -2°C outside, so the powerful lights doubled up on usage tonight, not only providing light, but also keeping me surprisingly warm!

So I wanted to get the rest of the interior out tonight, so I can finally inspect everything for rust.

Last of the interior:

An old repair to one of the sills:

Rear arches are intact :D

Also, I thought I would share the door handles! Sounds mad I know, but they are pretty funky, and I thought a few of you might enjoy a bit of retro-goodness :D

Coilovers are still not here, but I'm not too bothered/worried as the seller is very very well respected in the E21 world.

Really happy that the ball is rolling again, as I had "stalled" recently.

Bring on the welding!

Haha! Yeah, they'll be getting a full strip down and clean before they go anywhere near the car!

Need to contact GAZ actually about if it's safe to boil the coilovers, seeing as it'll be the best way to clean them, but I don't want to f**k them up!

If not, I'll steam clean them.

Looks like I'll be going for these too:

Decent price too, at £150 (according to Google's conversion rate)

Updates :D :D :D

Coilovers arrived today :)

They need a good clean up, and they'll be going on. Taken a little while for them to arrive, but they're here now, and that's what counts :)

Also, a guy called Alan, who was the owner before the last one before me, got in contact with me about the car, as he heard it was about to go into a full restoration. Safe to say he was very happy to hear that the car was finally getting some TLC. He sent me some photos of the car when he found it, and as he progressed. They're certainly worth sharing :)

This is how he found it in 2009. In a garage, having been left there for 12 years!

Some time later, in March 2010, he had done a lot of resto work on it, and it looked well:

Sounds soft, but I'm so happy to be involved in another chapter in this cars life. I'm going to finish it, and drive it. Like it should have been all those years ago, it'll be a detailed queen, no doubt, but a driven detailed queen

Wow, its quite cool having the pictures from before of it being dragged from the dump to how it was in the last two pictures!

Really cool car, good luck with the rest of the work.

Epic history! Love the service book and stuff. I know my cars only 2006, but I'm trying my hardest with this one to keep it smart, keep all the paperwork etc. Even been looking on eBay for Golf GTI brochures of the time. So sad, but will be nice to think if I keep it for years or w/e I can look back at it all.

This is sounding more and more promising by the day. I wasn't keen at first, but I can see this being fairly awesome if all goes to plan. I still need to see it in person!

Had to resist the urge to buy some pop out glass that was going for sale.

Really need to buy some "sensible" stuff/start putting some decent money to one side for the respray!
