Project CARS 2

Feckin harnesses on a gaming seat, seen it all now! You know some douche bags strap themselves into that set-up dreaming off being on track for real, lol.

So is this better than Forza?

Eh depends what you want imo. If you play with a controller Forza cant be beat. Both are good though but if I had to pick 1 it would be Forza. I'll possibly get PC sometime in the future when it costs peanuts just have to hope online isn't completely dead by then.

After playing the Cayman Cup in career mode, I've fallen in love with this car in the game. It's so much fun to drive. Hadn't tried it on the Ring. Going to try and put some good times in tomorrow. This would have been an ok lap but caught some air and shafted it up.

Well that sh1ts all over my setup doesn't it ...

Who else actually uses "in cockpit" view, especially when you're using a wheel?
I can't stand it, myself, never have.
Either it's front-bumper cam or roof-cam for me.

For VR I'd imagine the in-cockpit view makes sense, but otherwise why waste screen space on a dashboard and wheel....especially if you already have a wheel in your hands?

I like Assetto corsa's 'speedo view' which positions the camera so the physical wheel is roughly in the right position, and some games I like going inside because it looks so good, but I find the roof/bonnet view easiest to drive quick with.

Roof cam for me as well, but can use cockpit cam on the tracks I've fully come to grips with (MSV tracks). Also what I've noticed is that when using cockpit cam the car seems easier to handle and is less twitchy, but as mentioned above it takes up precious track view as a trade off.

See, I just can't waste my eyeballs on looking at A-pillars when there's an apex I'm trying to clip.
To me, the cockpit view is only a short step away from the follow-cam and I have no idea how people can drive like that.

Again, if I had Vive power, I'd probably think differently.

Helmet cam,but the helmet switched off. I love the 'look to apex' feature as that is what i do in real life. Bumper cam doesnt feel realistic to me,its what you used in Ridge Racer. I like seeing all the cockpit, dials etc as it just adds to the sim realism. This gen is the first time ive been able to use cockpit cam,as all the previous years the graphics just werent good enough. Remember the terrible low detail, dark cockpits on previous gen consoles?

I think this has become my favourite racer to date... just had a race at Brands Hatch Indy in a spring storm whilst driving a Radical and really enjoyed it. It was a bit of a handful, especially on the pad. I tried capturing the video of the drive and the replay but, running it at 3440x1440 with ultra settings, I'm not sure how good the captured footage will be (tried grabbing it at a lower 2560x1080). It's probably dropping a lot of frames despite being silky smooth to play thanks to G-Sync :p

I'll post the vids up when they've finished processing. Here are some pics in the meantime.

Couple of vids. YouTube has compressed the s**t out of them again hence they look nowhere near as good as they should.

Sorry about the crap driving. It was hard to keep it pointed in the right direction.

Same race, but replay mode (not full race).

Cockpit here, helmet makes me feel sick. (Lol)

Just need to get the right FOV and speed sensitivity.
Cockpit view for me too. At the end of the day, it is just a ‘game’ - but to be in control by sitting on the roof, looking down at the bonnet - or behind the car in the 3rd person perspective - ruins any realism for me.

I also find that I can judge the distance to the car in front better and find the width of the car to be easier in cockpit mode too.

I'm really enjoying this game, and the latest patch has improved things immensely!

A massive improvement over the original game, it's even playable with a pad.

I took the plunge though and bought a wheel! I got lucky and managed to pick up both a Logitech G920 wheel/pedals and a Playseat Challenge secondhand.

I've always fancied getting a wheel, but wondered whether it would just be a gimic... How wrong I was! It's made such a difference to the game.

This one folds away when not in use, because as you can see I don't have an awful lot of room due to our giant sofa, but because it can be hidden out of the way it keeps Mrs Davis happy! [emoji6]

Currently racing in a Group A championship, driving the Audi V8 DTM.

It's a lot of fun, and a very easy car to control that flatters my abilities! [emoji23]

I’ve just bought it. Love it so far, graphically far better than PC1 but I’m struggling to dial in the controller settings. Can’t justify the £500 for a decent wheel + seat.

Has anyone got a decent setup for deadzone/sensitivity etc?

I used this guys with a little tweak here and there.

The new patch seems to have sorted some of the tyre issues out, but as I found out yesterday there still seems quite a bit more to sort... Started an hour endurance race one of the GT3's with 32 cars. After lap two the tyres were screaming and red all around. Done a little investigating and turns out that if you race a high volume of cars with some categories it cant handle all the info and sends the tyre temps haywire!

It's nuts that the game has been released at full price with so many play-affecting problems. I almost feel like the game should have been released a bit cheaper but as a Game Preview/Work In Progress. I'm loving the game, I just don't want it to come down in price before it becomes completely playable lol

Anyone noticed the downshift delay? Its a feature that was added in the 2.0 patch...'downshift protection' its so you cant bang down the gears to aid slowing down under braking, you now need to time it so it doesn't hit the limiter on each downshift. I thought it was another bug, but seems not, so another thing to adapt to, lol.

Tis when you're used to machine gunning down the gears to get the nose in, lol.
Well, it is a simulation.

The alternative would be to let you flick from 5th to 2nd, but then retire the car with a bunch of holes in the engine block.

If its meant to be a simulation WTF cant I get off the damn grass once I've binned it, its ridiculous even in 2nd with 5-10% throttle you just do donuts in a RWD, lol.
