Right thought I'd might as well start a progress thread to log the changes and improvements to my 182 over the coming months.

Bought it a few weeks ago, she's had 2 previous owners, with the lad I bought it off doing 8000 miles in 2 years. Car is completely standard

Couple of pics:

The stripes need some attention in a couple of places, I tried a local sticker company but the colour match was off. Anyone know if Renault sell them?

Current mileage:

Gave the car a shampoo, polish and wax. Quite a few tar spots on the car, will a good dosing of snow foam get this off or do I need wax?

Went to Renault on saturday to order a Cup splitter and book the car in for a service but they didn't want to take my money on the weekend. So had a play with a Meg 250 instead:

Wondering if anyone can help me, I've been quoted £169 for the service with Renault but what with the car turning 5 years old surely I should be getting the belts done? Thinking about cams so might as well wait until I get those and have the belts changed then!

Got a compact fire extinguisher and Odyssey race battery on my desk ready to go in the car.

haven't really pushed it yet but the engine noise isn't bad, needs some encouragement with an aftermarket exhaust so might look into one after the servicing is done. The rear wheels are running budgets as well whilst the fronts have Pzeros so I'll need 2 tyres replacing soonish.

Stripes from renault, seen as they're from renault in the first place! personally I'd be taking them off :)

Don't go to renault for a service, go to your local specialist who will look after you much better, and as you say coming upto 5 years old for pure peace of mind I'd be having those belts done. Their quote for belts might give you a shock too!

Stripes are staying on! They give the car 'character' imo, and yes I've tried explaining it to every girl who's seen them and I'm just not getting through...

£169 doesn't seem too bad of a price (although what am I getting for that) but if the Renault cambelt/auxbelt changes are ridiculous I'll take it to JMS or somewhere similar.

Is it due a 2 year service then? Otherwise the next interval is 24k.

Definitely go for a bull belts/tensioner change (including aux), and definitely don't get Renault to do it.

Renault call it the 'Gold Service' :S oil/filter/plugs etc

Will using a specialist affect resale (not sure why I'm bothered as I'll be keeping the car for a while). Just been bent over on the price of a Cup splitter so not sure if I want to give them more money.

Oh and replacement roof stripes come in at £98 for 1! Anyone know where I can get originals for less?

Silvervisions ordered as well.

RE: the tar. claying is the best thing i've found. if you cant be arsed with that, try anything petroleum based (petrol, paraffin or even methylated spirits would do it) depends on how bad it is. just put some on a cloth, should get it off.

to remove tar sumthing like auto glym intence tar remover. wax wil not remove anything its just to protect the paint. as for snow foam its just a pre wash to remove dust and loose grime

Sorry I meant clay! I'll have a look for that tar remover.

Ordered my splitter from Renault and it arrived at the dealership the next day. Which you'd f**king hope at the price I paid. I don't know how Kevin the parts guy sleeps at night.

Had a go at fitting but it was snowing and you really need ramps to get to the bottom of the bumper properly.

Crappy pics:

Service on monday. I'm too young to be given one of their Twingo courtesy cars though. :(

Going to the RB (and others) meet on Sunday so hopefully will get the chance to open up the taps a bit. Been listening to Lucky Man by The Verve today, cracking tune!

Car looks cracking Joe ;) Wish mine would stay that clean.
Looking forward to seeing you both for a bit of exhaust/air filter/splitter/seat/harness fitting in the near future!

The joys of walking to work ;)

I fitted the splitter on my gfs drive in the dark. Took 2 hours but it's on now! Silvervisions have been fitted also. Both quite subtle mods but neaten the car up so much.

Car's being serviced by Renault today. I specifically told them not to wash or vacuum it after hearing the horror stories.

After some coilovers now but I've shot myself in the foot getting a Cup as coilover kits are few and far between and pricey! ASTs for 1.4k hmmm.

I presume Cup packed units wont fit?

Went up to Demon Tweeks today. Came back with my wallet considerably lighter:

These but in black

Whiteline rear adjustable ARB

Of course I didn't pay retail for them ;)

Need to wait 2 weeks now whilst Tweeks order them in then off to JMS to get my Bimarcos in the 182!

Well some goodies have arrived in the post over the last 2 days!

First up:

3" harnesses are chuffing huge

Aircraft style release system for ultimate un-practicality.

To replace my shocking standard discs, these will soon be mated to some Wilwoods

MOT tomorrow so fingers crossed everything goes without a hitch although the state of my current discs and pads are worrying. I've got a spare set of discs in the cellar but the Wilwoods might have to come on sooner rather than later.

I have those seats with three point harnesses... Very comfy! Travelled to london and back with no issues.

Il be interested to see how you get them to fit in the car though! I had to have custom subframes made:(

  ph1 track weapon
if he bought from JMS they should be coming with the correct frames i think? Mine use standard clio frames, not sure if theyve been 'customised' to fit or not, but amcollecting them tomorrow after having them machined to sit a little lower

they're sitting on JMS subframes as they were on my old 172, just need them to attach them to some runners and we're good to go.

How much were those harnesses out of interest?
£293 from Tweeks - they were in a 'rally pack' so cheaper than buying them individualy. I got 10% off so £260 odd. Not cheap!

ahh think I will be ordering a set in the coming weeks :)
Do it they look the mutts!

So the RB passed her MOT with no issue!

Looking at uprated engine mounts atm.

Also can anyone tell me where I can buy a silenced decat? Ktec seem to stock them but they only fit with their own supersport exhaust.

  Evo 8 MR
Liking the mods so far, get a non silenced decat, I'm told they make no difference being silenced and the non silenced are cheaper.

Looking good Joe, Have you checked that the willwood kit will work with standard discs as they normally use a slightly larger disc with the mounting bracket

As far as I know the version I've looked at does use standard discs which is what attracted me to it.

Here it is: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=472526

If I buy them can you fit them when I come down for the seats?

UPDATE: Just waiting on my Whiteline ARB to arrive. I now desperately need some 15" rims as I've just won 4 new R888s on the bay!

Need a helmet now and then hopefully I've got a place for the upcoming Llandow trackday.

Right so non-silenced decat it is then?

Nearly didn't have these today as I missed the DHL man but I flirted with the call centre lady and she got them brought back for me when I rang up.

DHL > Parcel Farce all day!

Not the most interesting item in the world but hey-ho!

Hopefully everything will have arrived/ been fitted by April 2nd.

Just need new brakes and alloys and I'm set.

What kind of battery do you need as replacement and how does it save you in weight over the original?
I've got an Odyssey drycell battery which I bought in a group buy on here which was organised by Burp, think it's still going but the price is going up soon/already has.

Weighs 7kgs so roughly half of the standard unit and is a lot smaller obviously.

Oh I see what you meant in your text now, looking good, get 'em wrapped round some appropriately sized wheels before Llandow and you'll be cornering nearly as well as me!

I need some R888s...

Got bored the other morning so:

Also bought a Helmet ready for my first trackday.

Things that need to be done:

ARB to arrive and be fitted
Brakes bought and fitted
Alloys to fit the Toyos (should arrive tuesday)
Seats out, Bimarcos in
Race battery fitted

Update time!

Quick trip down to JMS to get my Bimarcos installed and some 4 Points put in - turned in to a day and a half job but luckily my older brother let me and my mate stay at his in London. Then another mate drove my car down the next day to get the remap + over run.

Got a bar made up so the harnesses sit directly behind the seats and I've sacked off the Renault runners so they sit even lower now.

Went from these ruined standard brakes:

To:

Very nice kit to install as everything was all new and shiny. 2 bolts for each extension bracket, 2 for each caliper, lines on. Bleeding was a pain as there are 8 nipples all together.

In true motorsport style everything was completed the night before and I had to bed them in on track the next day.

Once bedded in however f**k me they are amazing, I went from knackered standard discs and pads to these and it's night and day. Yes maybe the Mk2s don't 'need' them but there's nothing wrong with over speccing the brakes. There was a 172 Cup with Hispecs at Llandow and whilst we didn't get to compare stopping distances I could out brake every other 172/182 there (maybe they all had worn parts who knows). Phenominal bit of kit, very impressed.

Llandow was my first track day apart from the hero sessions at FCS and Trax. I've been bitten, was great fun although my exhaust only lasted 3 laps before the cat - centre section join went causing it to blow badly, cue a trip to the local Halfords for some clamps and parts to try and bodge it. I managed to fix the sagging in the middle but it was still blowing like a beaut. Ran for the rest of the day with a broken exhaust, but at least the pops and bangs were nice and loud :D

Few pics from the day:

As you can see, lots of body roll so need that sorted in the coming months! Stupidly I forgot the screws for the mounts for my GoPro so couldn't get any videos :(

Got some camber bolts which need fitting and looking for a new exhaust for a nicer sound.

Big thanks to Ktec for getting everything to me earlier than expected and in time for Llandow and to JMS for modifying the seat mounts and getting everything in!

What about a big thanks to he who accompanied you on your (what can only be described as) EPIC overnight trip to JMS and to he who helped you fit/bleed the Willwood system well into the early hours of the morning the night before Llandow and indeed he who took most of the brilliant above photographs of the track action at Llandow?

:rasp:
