Pro's or Sportlines?

I've been reading posts for an hour or so, but can't see any clear cut decision.

What's the best one's to get for a 172? How much does either lower by, and do they look ok when lowered? Hows the handling with them?

  tiTTy & SV650
lol not quite max power...

the sportlines lower it about 30 - 35mm the prolines dont lower it much if anything.

Well I was gonna get the Pro's from K-Tec for £152. Not too fussed on going too low, just slightly lower looks sleaker.

But want to improve handling!!

by all accounts the sports are meant to be better than standard with the advantage of being 'sleeker'

  VW ....
Pro - for drivers

Sport - for Max power boys.

not being funny m8 but that wins dumbest post of the day for sure

The difference between pro's & sportlines are that sportlines lower the front end more - approx an extra 10-15mm(overall 25mm) ,the back stays the same as the pro's (15mm drop).

The improvement in the handling with either of these springs is transformed ten fold .

As for where to get them :

yozzasport
europerformance
motorsportworld
Demon Tweeks

my sportlines cost £133 delivered from Venom Motorsport.

thats the cheapest ive seen. they'll lower the car approx 25-30mm, and dramatically improve the handling.

i've had both the pro's and now the sportlines... i prefer the pro's... but i wanted the car to have a slightly lower stance so now have the sports.

well.

I have Pro's on my 172, drops it 10-15mm and improves driving no end. The sports drop the car 35-40mm and create quite a harsh ride, from what I've read on this site. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  VW ....
i will correct you ... I currently have sportlines on & changed from pro's ... having actually experienced both ,it's fair to say i can comment .

Sportlines lower the front more ,the ride is no harsher(if you would even call it harsh) IMO

personally i changed from the pro's cause it sat to high at the front ,the sportlines give it a better stance all round ... depends what your after .

interesting m8 .... why did u prefer the pro's over the sports ?

i preferred the pro's because they seemed more controlled... the car seemed more stable in corners.

Dont get me wrong, the sportlines are superb springs, which is why i have them now (and the fact they look better) but i prefer the ride of the pro's.

i agree with alan though, the sportlines are the best all round spring for ride and looks, im more than happy with mine! :)

This is going to be a crucial decision for me.

I had Pro's on the 1.2 and they were immense. On the 172 im worried about the carbon splitter at the front with sportlines! lol

Plus I live with the surface of the moon day to day. Shocking roads!

what about body pitch and roll? also any word on the rear?

they lower the car 30mm max imo... and are far from harsh. Ive had Eibach pro's, then apex, then standard, now eibach sportlines on my car. Being progressive springs both the pro's and sportlines are miles ahead of the other ive had.

body roll isn't an issue with the sports really, yes its there slightly but its easily controllable and i see a little body roll as a good thing!

hang on, i took some pictures of my car with the sportlines on during the week now that they've settled, i'll put them on here so you can see... its far from low! lol

How much more improved are either the sports or pros over the cup springs on the 182? A worthwhile mod perhaps?

karlos... the cup springs are lower than normal springs... so fitting the pro's might in fact raise your ride height.

on a 182 cup i would opt for the sports

Ahh, ok. Cheers matey - I didn't know that. I've just been checking out the prices from various suppliers. All seem to be about the £135 mark plus p+p.

If you fit the sportlines you might want to get the wheels realigned. In my experience lowering the car further made it go from having positive feedback to "oh f**k why am I bouncing all over the road heading towards the kerb" moments.

If you want looks and performance why are you only considering springs, sounds like an excuse not to buy some coilovers ;)

Coilovers are a complete overkill for road use in my opinion. I've had sportlines on a cupped 182 for about 3 months. I've not had any realignment done, the handling is much better than the standard springs and the tyres are wearing evenly. It's te best £140 i've ever spent on a car.
