resets it to 01/01/2009 you then set it to today. kinda funny as only 4 people are on line out of a usually 30+.... anyway the reset works perfect although ive lost some trophies, will try and sync them in a sec just putting it all back together now:)

Taking it to pieces voids your warranty, IIRC

my warranty went out the window the minute i ordered an original 60gb console from the US;) Sony have no love for me and my ntsc machine which leaves me to fix it:D

I can't see why people are saying not to turn it on, you've got to turn it on eventually, it'll be the only way to fix it, it's not like you can apply a patch without turning it on lol!

Be an interesting one this, nearly as bad as the 360 fiasco ;)

maybe there will be an app you can download to a USB key or a cd they will sen in the postto fix it? Certainly going to be interesting.

Not going to just correct itself tomorrow then? I wanted to play cod tonight :(

the thing is the clock keeps resetting itself so the PlayStation will have no idea what day it is. i set mine correctly earlier turned the ps off and upon restarting it was back to what i set it even tho it was an hour later:( anyway battery reset thing works a treat if its out of warranty. will be interesting to see how sony actually get around it tho, feeling sorry for the people with no Internet connection at all

For information, I've just done the battery disconnect trick, & it worked a treat.

I have an 80GB non backwards compatible phat from late 2008 CECHM03 model, & it's a piece of p!ss. I saw a youtube guy do it on a 60GB & it looked really complicated.

I would only recommend this if your PS3 is out of warranty. I wanted to blow some dust out of mine anyway.

1. Remove hard drive.
2. Remove warranty sticker above hard drive, & lever out rubber gromet.
3. Remove screw in hole. It's a star fitting, & I was lucky enough to have the right screwdriver, but I actually put it back in with a small flathead.
4. Turn PS3 upside & shake gently to get screw to fall out.
5. Place flat & slide off the shiny Playstation 3 lid.
6. Remove 7 obvious screws that were underneath lid. 6 are the same length, the rear right one is shorter. Easy to remember.

At this point you will think the lid will come off, it won't.

7. There is a small clip at the rear right of the unit if you're looking at it flat on the ground with the blu-ray drive on the right facing you. You just stick your finger in the whole & push. Lever the lid off starting with the back, the front should follow.
8. Lift up the blu-ray drive carefully (it's not secured). No need to unplug it as the is the furthest you will need to go.
9. The battery is right underneath the back right of the blu-ray drive (it's covered in a green cover, & has a little metal contact on top of it). Unplug the connector, wait a few seconds or a minute. Reconnect battery.

Put it back together.

Only things to note on re-assembly is that big cover should be clipped from the front & the back lowered into place, & that the screw holding the slidey cover is a git to get the screw back in & a magnetic screwdriver is a godsend.

I have previous experience of building my own PC's & I've taken a PS2 apart loads, but it is easy if you're just careful with the blu-ray drive. There is no contact with circuit boards or chips. You don't even see them. Whilst you're at it, blow the dust out.

Like I said above, this is just for my 80GB model.

When I turned the PS3 back on, it asked for the date, & then signed straight into the Playstation Network.

Well i just failed at that, had no seals to break seeing as my 60gb has always had the screw missing that holds the top lid on (winner :))

Got it all to bits fine, looked at the back right of the blueray drive and their was sod all there???

its in a different place on the 60gb mate, got quite a bit to take off to get to the battery unfortunately. nothing to involving tho just an extra 10 screws and maybe 10 mins. have a watch of this vid, its in the same place :)

got my trophies back that were missing aswell, just had to do a sync and they all came back:)

i think sony has sorted it as my ps3 is working again now and i can update the clock via internet currently signed into psn now lets just hope cod boots fine. ill check back with my findings;)

  a burnt one
Trophies are stored online iirc, on Sonys servers. Even if you log in on a different console your trophies will still be there.

However anyone who actually keeps track of trophies is a bit sad, surely nobody actually does that.

fixed for one of my friends aswell, he turned it on and said the date was 28/2, done the internet time update and it changed to 1/3. online working as normal now:D mines needed its yearly dust out so done no harm in resetting the battery;)

sony announced earlier that there would be a fix within 24 hrs, so maybe they have fixed it.

i bet the date thing is just stopping people from logging into psn so they can just change the date parameters to allow wrong dated ones to log in and then change the date on sync maybe?

it was probably just psn not allowing consoles with that date signing in so a simple code change their end?

anyway, its better than the thousands of bricked 360's!

or maybe it was just luck that it fixed itself?

The 8001050F error that had glitched PlayStation 3 consoles on March 1 has resolved itself as midnight passed.
Due to a clock functionality error related to a leap year miscalculation, the console reset the date to January 1, 2000, blocking access to games with Trophies and PSN downloads.
After Sony announced that a solution would present itself within 24 hours, users are now reporting that their consoles returned to function as midnight passed within the GMT timezone.
While games and PSN-related content have returned, Trophies that were not synced to the servers before the glitch have been lost.
Sony are expected to issue a firmware update to ensure that the error won't occur in future.

Lol. If they wanted to update people, they'd just release it as an update.

Not have world wide bad PR for it.

exactly, who gives a s**t now as long as it doesnt do it again i dont give a f**k
