Maybe if they'd have launched it at a reasonable price people wouldn't be so reluctant to buy one.

I know a couple of people I work with who got one on launch and paid £500+ for it with a game or two. They are the complate techs who have to have all the latest computer hardware and software. They are the only types who have bothered.

I know I'll wait til the 360 comes down in price that bit more and buy one of them.

I ordered a retail PS3 for the office yesterday, it arrived today!!

The games industry is worth a few quid, you should just see the bonus I've just picked up. Toys gallore for me, or do I get an R26.

When they make computers small enough, cheap enough and nice looking enough to sit under my TV and play games than I may not bother with a console. Until such time I'll quite happily sit in my favourite leather armchair with my 37" HDTV and Surround sound and my Xbox360.

I've not seen many DVD player sized PC's running the latest twin top of the range gfx cards - not without melting anyway!

Although in theory given the low resolution of even a 1080p tv you wouldn't need that high a spec.

But no the thin ones either cost a lot more, don't have the spec or most commonly suffer from both those issues.

the ps3 is that good, it will not fail despite the catastrophies with delayed release, its just too amazing. Especially once GT5 comes out next year.

My best mate has both a 360 (with 10 games) and a ps3 (with 1 game) and i have to say im totally jealous of the ps3, but not the 360, even tho the 360is still ace, i just don't want one enough.

As for graphics being poo. Its Ridge Racer ffs, what do u expect! Shittest driving game ever. None of the game out explore the full potential of the ps3 anyway yet but you can bet when they do, they will amazing.

Don't get me wrong i love the 360 and that but its just not as good as the ps3. it needs built in HDDVD(at least, although blu-ray is better), HDMI, 60gb at least, built in wireless etc etc.

i downloaded the demo last night and i must say it was crap, one of the worst driving games i have even played but i don't think it was the ps3's fault.

the demo of GT HD is pretty cool, but GT5 will be much better graphics. The nice thing about GT HD is the improved sound as well as imrpoved graphics to the GT4. Oh and the fact that they finally have ferraris! the 599 Scaglietti sounds immense!!

I wasn't impressed with the GT demo. Nice mountains in the background that do a good job of distracting you from the fact that really there is f**k all else.

Just the spectators and a load of identical boring looking trees. I want to see it do some city tracks...

All the games I have seen so far look a bit lacklustre compared to the 360 launch titles which were also rushed lets not forget.

I am currently console-less so will have a choice of both and it looks like I will be getting another 360 from what I have seen so far.

I mean the PS3 is already 10 million units behind the 360 and the 360 is out selling it in the USA so that gap is growing.

A lot of people spanking their dappers over the PS3 are just PS2 owners and of course it would look good to them as well as the fanboys.

Most of the people that I know that always buy both consoles all think the PS3 smells a bit.

with regards to the GT Demo. Yes, all GT HD was ever going to be was a tarted up version of GT4 in HD. So i expect there to be boring trees and boring landscapes. Thats why they scrapped the idea and decided to go ahead with GT5. Which is exactly why i love the demo, cos it just makes u drool at the potential there is for GT5 and what it could have to offer!

I'll be getting both, eventually. I'm happy to wait a couple of years untill they come down in price.

I mainly want a PS3 for nostalgic reasons because I liked my psx and ps2 so much and I am hoping to continue the trend. I am like most ps2 owners I am sure in this respect.
I just never got into my xbox apart from halo1/2 and doom 3. I find the controller clumsy and the console itself noisey, I prefer the graphics and the solidarity of the textures on the xbox but it misses somthing, for me at least.

It seems however that Sony primed the western gaming industry some 11 or so years ago with the launch of the psx ahead of the industry world beaters with their Jaguar (and the first 64 bit console), CD32 (commodores last miserable sally forth) and Saturn (stood no chance against the psx), only to allow Microsoft to have taken full advantage of their lame timing.

The way I see it now; Microsoft have assumed the position of market leader by purely having 18 months advantage over the ps3's release, a very long time to make new customers.
Many multiformat products looked so much better on the 360 than the ps2 that gamers simply bought the better product and have thurs become loyal Microsoft customers. Sony wasted their time re-releasing the ps2 in different colours and in a slim case, how many millions in r+d was wasted there, which could have been spent sorting out the forthcomming ps3!
I'm going to sit back and wait for the prices to come down a bit and see what happens but as a sony fan I can only see microsoft going from strength to strength.

That processor was really basicly 16 bit not 32, I was getting at how sony dumped on all opposition back then dispite the claims.

The 68000 was a clever compromise. When the 68000 was introduced, 16-bit buses were really the most practical size. However, the 68000 was designed with 32-bit registers and address spaces, on the assumption that hardware prices would fall.
Even though the 68000 had 16-bit ALUs, addresses were always stored as 32-bit quantities, i.e. it had a flat 32-bit address space. This meant that the 68000 was, and is, a 32-bit microprocessor.

Ahhh ok you know your chips! iirc the jaguar used it specifically as a 16bit cpu at the heart of the unit, I think the graphics chip was 32bit and it had other custom chips were used (of dubiouse abillities) to help bolster their 64 bit argument. It was a hessian sack full of jism of a console anyway!!

I think the sucess of a unit must boil down to marketing to make sales and not it's performance. You would never think to look at any saturn game that the psx was inferior, dreamcast maybe.
