PS3 Sales plummet

  Citroen DS3 DSport
Just under 30,000 consoles for week 2, not bad considering most people who wanted yo buy would do so on the first week so the figures were always going to drop. 195,000 PS3 owners in the UK now and counting.

It's sold more in two weeks than the 360 could over the first month.

I'm hoping we will also get the PSP price cut, if so then I may well buy it if it sells for £99.

Theres a lot more PS3 stock available from launch then there was of the Xbox 360.

Waste of time comparing early sales figures because the 360 wasnt available in shops like the PS3 is so people couldnt buy one even if they wanted!! :rasp:

Exactly but the PS3 sales figures ain't at all bad considering the time of year the console was released. Happily I own both a PS3 and 360 so I don't really care who sells best.

If Sony have not sent more stock to the UK then there are now only 35,000 consoles available for sale in the UK.

  A blue one.

If they have the same sort of drop from week 2 to week 3 then 35,000 will be more than enough for the forseeable future! ;)

It'd be more interesting to know how many 360's were sold in the same period (i.e week 2 of the PS3 launch) - if that number is anywhere near the PS3 number then I'd imagine there will be more than a few nervous people at sony.

That last statement is crap, there was no where never the same amount of stock as the ps3 released with, can't even compare them.

i will maybe get a PS3 but not until there is some decent games out, nothing out for it that actual looks that good.

  Evo 8 Jap Crap
That shows f**k all.

Why should it sell more? Its new.

360's are already sitting in a vast majority of gamers houses so why would you expect the 360 to still keep selling ruck loads?

I'ts a bit of an exaggeration to say sales 'plummeted' sony were wise enough to have enough available at launch meaning those that wanted one got one.

It's not as if they expected week 2 sales to be exceeding week 1, unless of course they thought that those who didnt want one suddenly had a change of heart and bought it, its not exactly priced as something you buy on impulse while down the shops.

Its amazing the amount of Sony haters on here, like George Michael ffs, you all must either be an xbox owner who feels threatened by the ps3's release or unable to justify/be in a position to afford the ps3, lets compare the sales after a year.

The anti-PS3 threads are getting tiring now.

course they're gonna plummet! don't see people camping outside the shops this week to buy them!

They had enough stock because they kept putting back the uk release date! The 360 or Wii would have sold the same if not more if the stock had been there.

Wii's are still selling out as soon as they hit the shops.

Unfortunately you can only guess at that, it's not guaranteed they'd have sold more.

Ok by the amount of people that got f*cked over by amazon, play at the 360 launch, there was more than enough demand for more stock, was it not like feb, march you could actually walk in to a shop and get one, maybe later.

Look at japan the wii is outselling the PS3 by pretty much 2 to 1.

I bought my 360 during January 2006 when it was readily available in Game, I traded my PSP in for one :)

The Wii will attract more buyers purely because of its price and novelty appeal.

Japan doesn't really count though, does it?

Put any game out there with some big-eyed girl(s) and some bizarre scenarios and the Japs will buy it in droves. If its cute - it sells. Us Europeans and the Yanks (to be fair) tend to like things a bit more cerebral than having Miss Yakeumachi and her three pet, fireball spewing dinosaurs, hopping from mushrooms to clouds.

I don't think price is a factor in Japan - fluffiness is. And for that, firms like Nintendo will always win. Hands down.

More significant is that the launch of PS3 in Japan/America & now Europe has had a massive change of ownership of Blu-Ray over HD-DVD, in terms of both hardware and now titles, it's swung from HD-DVD having been in front for previous 6 months to now being second since xmas, the rate at which BD titles are outselling HD-DVD has meant Toshiba about to further lower their players next month

b****cks to nintendo always winning(handheld market yes), look at the gamecube 21 million sold worldwide, ps2 111 million worldwide and 24 million xbox worldwide, course japan counts but have to agree with there s**t and very f*cked up games.

The only figure that counts is the US sales figures where they have been out for a while and the 360 is outselling the PS3. You can't really pick any faults with that figure. Both consoles have been around for a while, there are no stock shortages and more people are buying 360's than PS3's.

More standalone HD-DVD players have sold in america than blu-ray players. about 1/3 of all the blu-rays sales are free dvd's with the ps3.

it won't be until next year that a clear indication of true sale's figures for each format.

Only good thing from a format war is price reductions :)

360 has the market, PS3 costs too much, and doesn't compare to the 360 glory. I said this would happen! LOL

The sales stats for HD titles I've seen do not include the free shipped title with the PS3, they are based on purchases and BD has been in front now 4 consecutive months globally

Hardly worth comparing any figures until next year, this Christmas will be interesting. Pointless looking at a console that has been out a week (PS3), a console that still sells out instantly pretty much worldwide (Wii) and a console that has been out a long time (X360).

My guess? Biggest seller will be the DS, easily. Ever tried getting one of those close to Christmas? Not easy!

Xbox 360 trounches the PS3 in America though

It isn’t overly surprising that Microsoft’s year-old Xbox 360 outsold the Sony PlayStation 3. The latter has trickled into retail stores, a fact that has converted many players from allegiance to Solid Snake to Marcus Phenix. However, more surprising is the fact that the 360 outsold the intensely popular Nintendo Wii, which has received rave reviews for its use of motion sensor technology.
The numbers are a bit skewed, however, since they’re limited to the American market. That tosses out Wii-frantic Europe and a Japanese population that has no use for Bill Gates’ little console. There, you can expect numbers will greatly favor the other two consoles.
But in the great United States of America, apparently residents are favoring home cookin’. Between the beginning of November and Santa’s arrival in the wee morning hours of Christmas Day, the Xbox 360 shipped some 2 million times, with the Nintendo Wii a close second at 1.8 million. The ghostly PlayStation 3 – which only seemed to haunt retail shelves here and there – sold just 750,000 units over the same period

Why do so many people care about sales figures though? The Dreamcast was a flop and was one of the best consoles I've owned. Surely the only thing that matters is the fun you have playing the games?

i agree and at the mo there isnt enough out to have fun with on the ps3

Just wait until sony start selling the 20GB consoles over here for £250ish, then more kiddys and causual gamers can get it. Thats when the real battle will start.

as that reports says though, the ps3 only haunted retail shelves here and there, it was in short supply!

not sure where the idea comes from that the PS3 is available easily in the US as i was there a few weeks ago and i went to a LOT of stores and not one had one and there was a big waiting list at all of them.

Depends where you are looking in the US I guess, but a quick search online shows that there doesn't seem to be any problems getting a PS3 anymore, unlike the Wii...

and if you look at online stores...Gamestop have PS3s in stock to ship but no Wiis, and it's the same story at Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart and Best Buy.
must be a locality thing as i went to all those stores (excluding amazon lol) and none of them had them.

I guess they will all keep some stock in at the online warehouse as it saves them shipping to stores when a lot of people do buy online these days.
