punctures/sub woofer...

ive had an idea to change all of my ice around in my car..

i've seen someone post pictures of mounting an amp underneath a driver/passenger seat, firstly is this safe for an overheating point of view??

what i have thought about doing is changing my false floor and mounting my sub flush with the boot floor, and recarpetting everthing etc...but this would involve removing my spare tyre and jack from the boot floor.

how often are puntures got, i have got breakdown cover on my insurance policy, so if i got a puncture but didnt have a spare wheel would i still be covered for recovery?

anyone got any views on this?!
ive had my system for about 4 months now and have already completely changed it around about 5 times for something to do, and ive got plenty of time off over christmas...

As for the amp under the seat it will be fine ive had it done before and had no problems with over heating. Taking out the spare tyre is your choice if you buy a can of tyre weld and leave it in the glove box you shouldnt have any problems just spray it in the tyre if you get a puncture and get it changed asap

ok, thanks for the help, if im planning a long journey ill just put the spare back in i suppose, just incase.

i think it should look quite good, and also free up some boot space.

another question...

if i dont have the sub in a box under the floor, and just have it 'dangling' underneath a false floor will this affect the sound it makes?
im not 100% on this subject.

foxy, are your plans the same as what i have described??

Yeah if you leave it without an enclosure it would sound terrible. It would make a farting sort of noise lol it deffo wont be as sharpe with the beats.

yes exactly, ive just put 16" superleggeras on the car, so the silly space saver wheel is going and im gona try and build the sub into the wheelwell like you described, been thinking about it for a few weeks and i was going to build a box that fits in, then a top piece of mdf that the sub can mount to, and probably use the wheel bolt to hold the whole thing down...

humm, building a box to fit inside the wheel well could be difficult...unless my original would slot in.

seems it needs a little more thought!

is there anyway i can get the complete dimensions and angles etc of the interior boot floor, my cousin has a cnc router so i could get a perfect fit piece made if i get the right sizes..

foxy...space saver? what year is your clio, i have a full size steel spare.

saw the post with the coilies and rims mate, looks like a sweet car, wish i had the money!!

ive seen a few on talkaudio.co.uk, people make a fibreglass mould to sit in the wheel well, and also put a layer of sound proofing imbetween the fibreglass layers, it was a perfect fit... they then drilled a hole for the bolt and secured it using a washer and tightening it right up... it was attached to the bottom of the false floor with bolts and more fibreglass...

bit too complicated for me all of that, mine would have to be a bodge job beneath the surface!

ill be able to sort it out one way or another!
also need some kind of chicken wire that is fairly strong in order to cover the sub, so i dont damage it!

i was thinking of putting a piece of mdf as the base of the false floor, and another one slightly raised, so i have a gap inbetween to put an amp in for the sub, then the amp for the components up front would be under either of the seats.

ive only got 1 amp, which im running the sub off, the rest of the speakers are just off the normal system, only upgraded the front door 1's so far.

im not sure whether to have a perspex circle covering the sub, or to fit it just below the surface of the false floor and then like i said a minute ago use some form of mesh or something to protect it.

  FOR SALE!!!
instead of using mdf you could use fiber glass in the foot well then seal that to the mdf would be lot easier and would still be gd sound qulity
