Putting standard exhaust back on

  Clio 182 Cup
So I've bought a 182, had it about 8 months now and it's only done about 55,000, so plenty of miles left. Great cars.

Basically the car came with an after market exhaust - it was too loud and seeing as I do a fair bit of motorway driving it just wasn't practical. The cheapest option was to put the original back on with the idea of saving a bit to put a decent one on down the line. Original exhaust bought off ebay, looked like it was in pretty good condition so I got my local garage to put it on.

My local garage is a local garage, they didn't do the best job and from what I can see they have custom made the fixings to attach the exhaust to the car. It rattles and squeaks a hell of a lot especially when it's warmed up.

Can I just ask if there are standard fixings you need for this, are they hard to get hold of? I don't really want the hassle of taking it back to the same garage to get it sorted, I'd rather take it to a RS specialist. If anyone knows of one in the herts, beds, bucks area let me know. I think

Cheers, Graeme

I had the same problem with a crappy aftermarket exhaust. So I bought a standard one off here that was pretty out of shape. James / Mike at Stone / Woodford Motorsport in Staines sorted me out. They did what they could and tbh it's been perfect ever since.

Getting rid of the standard exhaust was the best mod I ever made to the 182. I appreciate that the extra noise isn't to everyone's taste, but the standard item is poorly made, weighs a hell of lot more than an aftermarket item, prone to trapping water and rusting quickly - not forgetting the lack of ANY decent sound and those god-awful twin pea-shooters that stick out of the rear!

A lot of aftermarket backboxes have a choice of centre pipes too. I went for an unsilenced one, but you can get silenced units.

Unless you want the exhaust note of a Nissan Leaf, I can't see any reason to go back to a standard 182 exhaust.

I must admit, i have noticed the difference. The exhaust wasn't the best quality and I'm not one for half measures so I'd rather put a better one on when I have the money - so at the time it was really down the price.

I'm thinking that Mike at Stone / Woodford Motorsport is a little far away from me, anyone know of any others? Has 519 Automotive in Bedford closed down? I've tried ringing and emailing on a few occasions but no answer.

He hasn't shut down I don't think, his office phone is mega quiet and he doesn't often answer when he's in the garage. Keep trying I'm sure he'll answer soon enough.

Try facebook, I get a reply on there normally.

My car is with Dan (519) at the moment, when I saw him last week he said he wasn't working Thursday - Tuesday over Easter weekend, so that could be why.

Give him another go tomorrow

Amazing, thanks John. Getting anything decent done?

No probs! He's mapping my cup turbo, but it's going to be there a while yet as he's found a bad oil leak :(

At least its in good hands
