question for 172 cup drivers??

JACKO CUP 172!

hi all. just a quick question do any of you have banging noises when you are accelarating hard.:dapprove:

when i put me put down in 1st it seems to make this noise and a bit in 2nd to?? and if you are in a high gear and drop it to 3rd to overtake it makes an awful bang?? engine mounts???or could it be something else?? any of you guys had this??

I love the way 172 cup owners always have to state the fact that they own a cup. It's like the cups are completely different cars to the other RSs, and the problems they suffer are unique :clown:


They all do this, it's the engine mounts. Although I managed to fix mine by undoing the top (drivers side) mount, pulling the engine forward, towards the front of the car as much as you can, then redo the mount up. If this doesn't work then you've got screwed mounts.

know there all the same mate.just thought i would ask my fellow cup boys. if they have this prob to. as the others have traction control and stop it from spinning and all that malarkey..

i will give it a go tho dude.. i will prob post up nxt week and say my engine fell out!! thanks any way matey..

Clio traction controls terrible anyway.

Its just the mounts you'll probably find your dogbone one is worn which isn't helping new ones are only cheap and easy to fit.

yes my CUP had the same problem engine mounts.

we CUP drivers are always here to help fellow CUPS out :D

the only noise I get on acceleration are the air vents vibrating, does anyone else have this issue on their CUP?! :)

did this to mine, i also have the ktec dogbone mount bushes too, jobs a good'un :cool:

oh i also have a CUP, thats right a 172 CUP :cool:

171 bhp/ton, compared to 154 bhp/ton of the follow mk2 phase 2 172 ;)

CUPkid.. I have a CUP too & my CUP sometimes has a little vibration coming from the front drivers side air vent.. and also that little plastic panel with the headlight adjuster thing on it.
only happens occasionally though.. strange
No banging noises for me though .. yet(touch wood)

(also got a tapping parcel shelf.. is that just the CUP's?.. as surely they have lighter weight shelves in then :))

Depending on where the knock comes from it might be worth getting the front Gearbox mount checked too. Mine just went today and I have no idea what damage it may or may not of done.

But...it is a CUP!:rasp:

I have a CUP toooooooooo, mine does this, i changed the dog bone, and its a bit better, still get it, i wonder why you pull the engine foward, i would have thought pullign it backward would be better, cos when u accelerate surely the engine moves backwards ? or am i just thinking australian ?

its the manifold hitting the bulkhead, it works trust me :)

thats coming from a 172 CUP owner ;)

yeah, ok, with the bulk head, will have a look when i check the bolts this weekend, and try moving the engine foward.
 
I have both problems with my CUP! I fitted K-tec dog bone bushes and new CUP engine and CUP gearbox mounts, moved my CUP engine forward too and that sorted MY CUP out.... for a while.

I think I need to move the CUP engine forward a bit again because I got a bit over excited when I first changed all the bushes and did a few too many 'Drag style' starts and the banging came back... (of course when the SUPERIOR POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO of the CUP is taken into account those Drag style starts were extremely violent)

As for the CUP air vents, the one on the drivers side rattles a bit sometimes. i find a quick thump sorts it out.

My LIGHTWEIGHT CUP drivers side front WINDOW also rattles...

I get another knocking noise when cornering, accellerating and braking, thats down to the two empty red bull cans and a can of CUP tyre foam that are on the floor in the back!

I removed the tyre foam to make my CUP even lighter, who needs it anyway, thats what friends are for, to bring you spare wheels

MY CUP WHICH IS AWESOME has a knocking when cornering over any bad bumps but other than that and the rattles inside its all good.
The knocks and bangs are just part and parcel with these things....even the Trophy boys get them im sure.
As long at the engine is well looked after and there are no obvious suspension maladies (bushes knackered etc then i just carry on my merry way.....takes a while to get convinced of this though!

The passenger seatbelt in my CUP also squeaks when I have a passenger. and the suspension lets of a Klonk when i hit a speed bump a bit harder than intended too. all in the CUP......
