Questions for Williams owners

They say you can understand the potential of a car if you take it out and throw it about in the wet. Ive never driven my Williams in the wet. What are they like on a slippery road? Any surprises?

Also is it just my Williams or is the clutch very very heavy? Man its like driving a monster truck.

Is it true Williams use a litre of oil a 1000 miles? I havnt doen a 1000 miles so i dont know if mine does

And lastly i have a magnex exhaust with a decat. To be honest its a lot loader than i thought it would be (very load). Is it just mine? Is this normal?

I think I can awnser the last question mate!

I dont have a Williams but a valver but sure if wont be any different. I had a MAgnex with a DECAT and it was horribly loud. Does my head in! So the decat came off!!! The valver and Williams do tend to use a lot of oil. Not sure how much though. My clutch and most others are pretty heavy as well. From what I have read in other posts. Just something you have to get used to!

Hope this helps dude!

All the renaults ive owned had heavy clutches (2 of them new, both 19s).

Its the same across the range, that and notchy gearboxes.

Is it true Williams use a litre of oil a 1000 miles? I havnt doen a 1000 miles so i dont know if mine does No! Renault allow a max of 500ml per 1000miles. Using a bit of oil is expected, any more than this though and there is something wrong.

And lastly i have a magnex exhaust with a decat. To be honest its a lot loader than i thought it would be (very load). Is it just mine? Is this normal? Depends....I take it its a unsilenced de-cat(straight through). If so it is normal.

My clutch is heavy, my magnex with a decat is loud (but i love it), It uses a bit of oil every 1000 or so and in the wet it grips well (u can make it arse slide if you want) and if the arse does step out its not that hard to get it back unlike a nova.:devilish:

  williams and trophy

the clutch on my williams is sooooooo light lol

mine uses loads of oil..... but how much depends on the thickness of the oil.......thin oil lose lots thick sh*t oil lose hardly any

Mine has used oil but within the reccomened limits. I have a magnex and im now used to it (deaf;)) - I was planning the proper silenced magnex decat as most seem to think its not much different in noise than the cat. In the wet my car is the best ive had but the toyos help a lot.

Driven 2.5k miles in my Williams and have had to top up the oil already. My car had a powerflow zorst on it when I got it ,put a cat replacement on it. Its pretty loud especially now I have stripped interior out, but it has two boxes on it so its quieter than my old saxo exhaust. Have also doubled the size of my calves with the HEAVY clutch.

i ve got a magnex silenced decat with the full system and its not that loud when driven normaly, but makes a beastly noise when you put your foot down... *lovely jubbly*

Clutch felt a bit heavy when I first bought it but soon got used to it. Just bought an M5 - now that really is a car with a heavy clutch! (So my Williams 1 is up for sale, see ad section and sorry about the shameless plug).

My Williams needed a top up once between each service so 1 litre after about 4k miles.

Real way of testing grip is on a track. Williams mainly understeers (never tried lifting off mid corner) and if you trail brake in the wet it oversteers but in a tuck it in/controllable way. Only ever spun it once at Bruntingthorpe where the track was so wide it wasnt a problem and that took a serious entry speed.

BTW itll depend a lot on on the tyres and Bridgestoe S-03s at 205 wide fit nicely.

My Valver has a voratious appetite for oil, though I think its not helped by a minor leak from around the sump gasket. Clutches are mega heavy as standard - even my old Mk1 1.2s clutch bore comparison with supercar clutch weights!
