quick oil question (182)

  Mk2 172
Imo just use what renault recommend if your not usin it on the track alot. and is not producin loads more power than standard. wont make any difference! im guessing renault may have spent alot deciding what oil and what grade to use and they would have put it through massive testin to ensure that it can cope with it through any temps and any conditions for probably 200k miles. this is if you want to save money! as long as you buy a decent branded oil it will be fine. ( most oil is made by the same companies anyway)

silkolene 5w 40. you can feel the car running smoother.

The quality choice is for a 5w-40 synthetic, most popular from us are the ester based synthetics of the Silkolene Pro S and the Motul 300v, their not cheap but you get what you pay for.

If you dont want to spend that kind of money the are more midrange synthetics that are worth a look such as the Motul 8100 5w-40.

Cheers

Guy.
