Quick Oil question - Already read other posts

  Clio 1970000000
I know my car needs 5w 40 fully synthetic and went to Halfrauds to buy a litre to top up my oil. The only 5w 40 was their own brand although they had a very good 0w 40 castrol oil. One of the guys that worked there said that the 0w 40 will be fine (also that the 5w 40 would be as well) and I asked him the difference between the Castrol and their own brand.

He said that the Castrol had special agents for cars on variable service intervals. In the end I bought the Halfords 5w 40 as I wanted to stick with the right viscosity.

Which oil would you have bought and does it make a difference?

Thanks

I'd of gone elsewhere and bought some fuchs (or whatever you usually run), dont know if its ok to mix brands but i wouldn't do it personally.

First time I have topped up the oil since I bought the car. It was serviced by Renualt so probably has their oil. Halfords don't make their own oil, it is rebranded something else.

unless you have a trade card ;) halfords is quite expensive. It's normally better and cheaper to speak to opie oils

The Halfords oil will be fine and will mix without issue.

Remember next time the Halfords is made to as low a cost as possible, using a proper/reputable brand will be better.

Cheers
