quick Q about lowering( 16v)

  182

I want to get my car lowered by 35-40mm i dont wont to spend a fortune but could i get away with just changing the springs and getting the torsion lowered?

Because its only a small drop would i need other bits changed?

also would i need the brake compensator at the rear moved, i still want to be able to have a full car load?

Also would any changes to getting it lowered have any negative effects on the over all cars ability to perform?

Standard 15s.

Probably a good move to fit new front strut top mounts as the same time - especially if theyre old anyway.

depends how many miles the shocks have done if there on there way out wear will be accelerated

like ben said best to get top mounts done otherwise they will start to bang over bumps and they only cost a few quid

mines dropped 40mm and i dont think they adjusted the bias valve when they did the torsion bar and i dont have any probs with the rear brakes locking up

Where did you get your tortion bar done? I got a quote yesterday £100 seems a little high...

How much did it cost you?

mine was 90 at abp motorsport in crewe

labour cost is high because there more often than not rusted in and it takes a while to free them

took em a few hours to do mine

did the torsion bar on my 16v a couple of weeks ago, didnt take very long (had previous practice on gtt), only 5 mins to get out and probably 20 mins to get back in, and saves yourself some cash!!

the only thing i did in advance was spray some penetrating oil at each end of the torsion bar about a week before doing the job!!
