Cars with airbags have a pyrotechnic pretensioner. Basically it is attached to the seatbelt stalk and fires a split second before the airbag does. This pulls the seatbelt taught and you back into the seat before getting a faceful of airbag.
These are very common to be faulty (not just Renaults all car manufacturers. The reason airbag lights come on is the control unit checks the circuit for resistance if its outside a certain tolerance it brings the light on. This can be caused by dodgy connections or faulty components etc. Lesson over, lol.
